Software engineer

What you will be working on:

You will be working on the design, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of application level software on an embedded Linux platform. This software will be responsible for integrating various Smart Home devices into Vivint's ecosystem over multiple wireless communication protocols, providing essential software services, and delivering a world-class smart home and security experience to our customers. You will also have the opportunity to work with product leadership to troubleshoot and root cause real issues seen in the field and provide immediate customer and business impact.

Who you will work with:

You will be a central part of a cross-functional delivery team focused on building customer experiences around access to the home, comfort in the home and ease of use of the system including a rules engine, AI engine, thermostats, garage doors, door locks, voice integrations and more. You will work closely with product management, program management, QA, UX designers and others. The position resides within the Smart Home Ecosystem business unit. What we're looking for:

We are looking for a software engineer who has experience developing application level software on embedded Linux platforms. The following skills are required:

• Deep knowledge of at least 1 object oriented programming language (C++ and Python preferred)
• Strong understanding of common software design patterns
• Multithreaded/parallel programming
• Common networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, SSDP, mDNS)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field
• 5+ years of experience

One or more of the following skills is highly desirable:

• Experience with wireless communication protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigbee, DECT)
• Experience developing GUI with QT or QML
• Experience building custom Linux distro with Yocto or buildroot
• Experience building a web front-end with Vue.js

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
