Senior Software Engineer (Scala/Java)

What's the role?
Are you an experienced backend engineer who enjoys building data processing tools? Do you like working on solutions that improve automation and efficiency? If so, we'd love to hear from you!
In the Map Processing Pipelines team, you will develop tools that process map data and support the backend of https://mapcreator.here.com/ . This platform lets users update the HERE map, and our system checks if those changes can be applied automatically or need manual review. We are also working on a solution for private maps, focusing on adding client data and keeping maps up to date. Your main task will be developing new features for the Universal Ref System to improve how we process and manage map data.

Must have:

• Strong applied skills in Java or Scala Java programming, in combination with backend architectures and related frameworks
• Readiness to learn Java / Scala if no experience at this area.
• Strong and applied experience in REST based web service technologies, JSON and XML, SOA and micro services architectures
• Good Experience CI/CD tools, with a preference on GitLab
• Good knowledge of using issue tracking tools (e.g. JIRA), code collaboration tools (e.g. Git/GitLab) and team collaboration tools (e.g. Confluence/Wiki).
• Good knowledge of Linux/Unix - familiar with shell scripting
• Solid knowledge of programming practices, strive to write great code that is reusable, flexible, and reliable.
• Strong quality mindset is considered a must: unit testing, performance testing, writing testable code
• Self-motivated, well-organized, details-oriented and a strong team player with an agile mindset
• Very good communication skills in English both written and spoken

Bonus points if you have:

• Applied SQL skills, with a strong preference on PostgreSQL / PostGIS
• Good and applied AWS skills (ECS, EC2, S3, RDS,...), as well as experience with virtualization like Docker
• Good skills in geo-spatial data (vector and raster) and algorithms
• Familiar with geo-spatial-standards (e.g. Spatial Features Specification, GeoTIFF)
• Python skills
• Kibana/ES
