Senior Staff Brand Designer

Marqeta is experiencing massive growth and so is our brand. Our world class marketing team continues to aggressively update and upgrade our brand identity, and 2023 is going to be the most exciting year yet. With significant updates to our website, our Platform UI and application interfaces, and all new graphical and video based marketing efforts planned, our goal is to elevate our customers' (and potential customer’s) experiences in ways that very few technology companies have been able to achieve. All of our design materials will need to be cohesive, engaging and uphold our brand message and style.

Modern digital design has evolved as has the brand style of Marqeta. Complex graphics with dimensionality, layering and depth to foster moments of movement in order to delight as well as tell a richer story. From thoughtful and engaging website graphics, to UI interaction to loading screens and transitions, motion graphics and animations have become an important (and expected) aspect of the digital experience and part of the Marqeta brand as well. 

We are looking for a driven, talented, multi-discipline design lead to help produce these exceptional experiences and to bring their vision to the team, adding their unique style to what Marqeta will look like in 2023. Someone who can conceptualize rich web experiences with movement and interaction, and create web based graphics from inception to final optimization and output, working closely with developer partners to bring those experiences to life. A designer that has a mastery of their processes and can work with stakeholders to determine project needs and provide guidance to other designers on the team as well to facilitate the achievement of project goals. A person who loves the technical and the artistic and has an understanding of the development that must take place in order to bring their visual experiences to life.

• Create engaging and exciting web based graphics, plan and design interactions and animations to excite, educate, and engage our users
• Maintain and update the design aspects of our new (soon to updated) company website, constantly looking to improve engagement through intelligent design and experiences
• Design cross-platform website assets using responsive, mobile-first principles and leveraging the newest technologies
• Work cross-functionally with our product design team to add excitement and movement to our product interfaces and onboarding processes
• Influence and help evolve our design systems to always be modern & cutting edge.
• Collaborate with design and marketing team members to conceive of and create compelling new digital experience that help people understand our world changing technologies

• 8+ years experience working as a Web or Motion Graphics Designer or similar role
• Expert level skills at web design with a focus on user interaction design
• Expert knowledge Adobe Creative Suite, (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) as well as Sketch, Figma, or other vector design applications
• Expert illustration/graphic design skills
• Deep understanding of interaction design and information architecture
• Excellent organization skills to structure your files and layers in a way that can be easily understood and modified by others
• You are a problem solver that thrives in a fast-paced environment
• Proactivity, positive attitude, and impeccable integrity are essential.
• Understanding of coding for design elements ( HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery)
• Experience with Adobe After Effects, Lottie, Greensock, Bodymovin or equivalent and the ability to create animated elements for the web is a plus

Bonus points for:

• Payments experience or experience working on highly technical B2E products
• Experience creating video animation production and/or visually showing complex technical products in a simple compelling clear story
• Cinema 4D, VFX compositing, 3D modeling skills
