JOB DESCRIPTION
Hybrid position, 3 days per week onsite or fully remote.
We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer with a focus on Medium Voltage and High Voltage (MV/HV) cable systems, particularly on laboratory tests including qualification, pre-qualification, quality assurance, factory acceptance test, etc. The Senior Staff Engineer will support and manage MV/HV cable testing projects globally to support the team's business development and growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enhance and advance a zero-incident safety culture and behavior.
- Manage project schedules to ensure all the projects are properly processed including quotation, execution, reporting, and invoicing.
- Support and drive sales and product management team on new business development initiatives.
- Evaluate and build technical solutions and pricing as per the customer's request for proposal (RFP).
- Subcontractor inquiry, materials/equipment/personnel planning to meet job and project requirements.
- Perform tests and measurements at UL's laboratories, and customer's job site.
- Visit subcontractor labs for test auditing and product inspection.
- Perform data analysis on the obtained testing data. Prepare technical reports and present their results to customers.
- Maintain daily work records with accuracy and integrity.
- Train and guide the other engineers to build competency in MV/HV cable qualification, quality assurance, and other lab testing programs.
- Provide technical input and advice to management.
- Develop close working relationships with customers while increasing Customer Satisfaction.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- Willing to travel over 25% of the time.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- 15+ years of experience working with/for MV/HV or high-power laboratories, MV/HV cable manufacturers, power utilities involving MV/HV cable systems, or relevant fields.
- Strong knowledge and experience in related industrial and international standards for MV/HV cable systems, including but not limited to ICEA/AEIC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE standards.
- Knowledge of high voltage testing technologies on power cables including high voltage withstand test, impulse test, load cycle test, dielectric loss test, partial discharge measurement, etc.
- Familiarity with high voltage safety requirements on site and in the lab. Commitment to safe operations and zero-incident workplace.
- Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all internal and external customers and make formal presentations to people at all levels, both within and outside the company.
- Knowledge of basic computer software in the MS Office suite.
- Able to handle multiple assignments concurrently without direct supervision.

- Valid driver's license and acceptable DMV record with a willingness to accept extended travel assignments.

The salary range for this position is $125K - $130K and is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position. For candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the salary range is $143K - $148K and for candidates based in New York City, the salary range is $137K - $142K and is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position.
All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation. The target for this position is 20% of the base salary offered. Employees are eligible for health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental & financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country, for the relevant position level.
We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
