Red Canyon Software is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer (SE) to support the Engineering tasks in our NASA mission operations and Integration & Testing (I&T) environment. As a Senior SE, you will participate in designing appropriate technical solutions for mission services using scalable technologies in a mission critical environment. You should be able to explore existing systems for reuse and guide the team in designing new systems with appropriate technology preferably scalable RHEL and Cloud based technologies. You will work with systems and network engineers, IT Security, mission leaders, and flight operations engineers in designing, planning, and developing the solution and/or design requirements. You will participate and support innovative strategies to ensure smooth running of your product, prioritizing system improvements to address compliance and improve resiliency.

You will need to be a key-player, supporting technical aspects of a team of engineers and collaborative work with other support groups for the design, development, implementation, maintenance, configuration management and quality control of the hosting infrastructure for ensuring a stable/secure/highly available network computing environment in support of critical mission operations. The SE will ensure the maintenance, configuration, and installation of the systems and product deliverable are met in accordance with the operational and compliance requirements. You will set standards for system design and configurations, along with setting baselines for our technology stack.Â
Objectives/Responsibilities:
- As a System Engineer, you will be analyzing, configuring, installing, upgrading, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, patching, compiling, securing, and repairing of Linux servers in a heterogeneous environment.
- The SE will also be responsible for all operations and working in a team environment with other talented engineers.
- The candidate will work as part of the engineering team, exhibit excellent customer service skills at all times, act as the central point of contact for all Linux related activities and seek ways to improve the environment.
- Provide technical expertise in the areas of system design, installation, configuration, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Provide technical guidance and maintain operations standards.
- Participate as necessary in the validation matrix role to independently test and validate solutions to ensure fulfillment of all business requirements, compliance of regulations and quality of solutions.
- Build, deploy, manage, and maintain new and existing infrastructure systems.
- Monitor and analyze data center infrastructure resources and system applications.
- Implement and maintain backups redundancy strategies.
- Responsible for the security of the managed infrastructure systemsÂ
- Responsible for collaborating and defining policies, procedures, and technical documentation including reports, design, maintenance, operational, and support procedures.
- Responsible for the on-going development of automation strategies.
- Engage with upper management and stakeholders with requirements, status reports, activity summaries, and achievements.
Daily & Monthly Responsibilities:
- Communicate with stakeholders to identify their needs and visions.
- Use expert-level administration and optimization of hosts and servers to ensure high availability and resource management.
- Standardize and automate processes and monitoring using scripting and advance technologies offered by the data center.
- Install and configure operating systems, software, and hardware components, and clearly document the design, maintenance, and support procedures for routine tasks to leverage IT support staff.Â
- Routinely test software for bugs, redundancies, and security issues.Â
- Conduct high-level root-cause analysis for service interruption and establish preventive measures.Â
- Create reports and documentation out-lining findings and solution; oversee the overall backup strategy and daily operations for secure backups and restore testing.Â
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in technology or computer science and at least 7 years of industry experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written, oral communication skills.
- Strong time-management and priority management skills.
- Strong RHEL/Linux/Unix background.
- Scripting experience (Shell/Perl/Python, or related language).
- Strong understanding of network protocols and principles (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
- Experience with designing/managing virtual infrastructures (VMWare/Nutanix/Hyper-V).
- Strong reasoning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Expertise in creating, analyzing, and maintaining large-scale infrastructure deployments.
- Experience with private-cloud backup and recovery.

- Cloudwatch (ECS, EC2, Cloud Formation), and knowledge of data storage

- Familiar with Containers (Docker/Kubernetes)Â
- Experience with AWS technologies such as S3, EMR/EC2 (or equivalent).
- API scripting
- Citrix (ADC/ADM/Storefront)
- Splunk, BigFix, Forescout
- Database management (MSSQL/MySQL/PostgreSQL)
- Familiar with the ELK Stack with emphasis on Elastic SearchÂ
