Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented self-driven and motivated Senior Traffic Engineer to work with our Alabama transportation team. The incumbent can be located anywhere in the state as this is a hybrid remote position.

The Senior Traffic Engineer will work as a traffic operation engineer for regional traffic operations programs (RTOP) - In this role you will be involved in field traffic operations including developing installing and fine-tuning traffic signal timings. There will be a mix of office and field work. You will also be required to troubleshoot traffic signal issues and address complaints issues with the public.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
  • Approves and signs off on work
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
  • Participates in development of technical proposals
  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects

Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in Traffic Engineering
  • Experience in supporting business development activities including preparing project proposals and firm marketing
  • Professional Engineer license in the State of Alabama, or the ability to obtain license within 6 months
  • Experience in traffic operational analysis including traffic projections, analysis, and simulation; traffic safety analysis, traffic signal warrants, traffic signal and pedestrian crossing control system analysis, and design; and traffic signing and pavement marking analysis and design
  • Experience in task/project management, staff oversight, application and development of technical skills, and experience working directly with internal and external clients
  • Experience in mentorship and development of traffic engineering interns and / or new graduate staff
  • Familiar with or knowledge of: Synchro, VISSIM, MicroStation, or other similar applications
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications
