About the Role

Caribou is looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter with 10+ years of auto lending experience. As a senior underwriter you have experience running underwriting teams. You have expert skills to assess and validate the creditworthiness of a borrower and  to approve or decline an application. In addition:

• Experienced with working with both prime and non prime borrowers
• Manage a high volume of daily applications on a timely basis
• Managed and led a team of junior underwriters
• Ensure loans are being approved in line with credit policy and compliance
• Create an efficient underwriting process
• Experienced with reviewing and confirming accuracy of required documentation
• Identify and document loan errors and communicate with lenders for error resolution
• Review and verify loan is accurate and complete
• Understands lending compliance
• Has experience with fraud prevention measures

About You

You’ve been a successful underwriting professional in the auto finance business working for banks, finance companies or other Fintechs. You have managed underwriting teams. You are proactive, built and managed teams and are able to work at a high growth startup. You:

• Have extensive experience with engaging and building an effective team and underwriting process 
• 10+ years of experience working with FICO scores across the credit spectrum
• Skilled in analyzing financial information, verifying income, and making decisions to approve, counter-offer, or deny a loan based on prescribed credit policies
• Able to assess exception requests and document decision rationale
• Familiar with working with both manual as well as automated decision technology
• Strong management skills, training and directing others
• Strong information reporting and process management experience 
• Strong communication (verbal and written) skills
• Able to problem solve
• Team player 
• Organized and detailed oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage daily responsibilities with little oversight
