Settlements Analyst

SUMMARY:

Seeking an Accounting Analyst to apply knowledge of accounting processes to perform pari-mutuel settlement activities for Churchill Downs Inc., its subsidiaries and third-party customers. This individual will be responsible for conducting account research and analysis, performing month-end close duties, preparing invoices, processing cash, preparing journal entries, and communicating with third party pari-mutuel settlement agents to reconcile outstanding balances.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• 1-3 years' experience in public accounting, or experience in corporate accounting for a publicly traded company preferred.
• Experience with month-end closing process, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations preferred.
• Knowledge of accounting procedures and principles (U.S. GAAP).
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
• Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable, strong organization and time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication / presentation skills.
• Embraces change and willing to learn new skills; a self-starter.
• Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong work ethic and ability to cultivate working relationships throughout the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Execute month-end close procedures, prepare journal entries and reconciliation of general ledger accounts on a timely and accurate basis.

• Communicate with third parties to ensure payments are made/received.
• Manage pari-mutuel settlement customer accounts.
• Prepare ad hoc reporting as required.
• Investigate, resolve and track settlement payment discrepancies and issues, ensuring timely resolution.
• Process regulatory payments on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as contractually and/or legally obligated.
• Process payments and receipts through the company's enterprise billing system as needed.
• Assist in identifying manual processes for automation to improve efficiency.
