Shear Operator

Way (Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence). Purpose/Summary:We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-orientedShear Operatorto join our production team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in operating metal shearing equipment to cutprecision squared steel blanks and sheets, working with a wide range of materials includingcold rolled, hot rolled, and coated steel. The operator must ensure accurate cuts within specified tolerances and follow all safety and quality procedures. Duties and Responsibilities: • Set up and operate mechanical shears to cut steel sheets and blanks to customer specifications. • Work with steel thicknesses ranging from.020" to .250" decimal gauge. • Read and interpret work orders, and production schedules. • Perform precision cuts to ensure squared and accurate dimensions with tight tolerances. • Inspect materials before and after cutting to ensure quality standards are met. • Adjust back gauge and blade clearance based on material type and thickness. • Safely handle and stage cold rolled, hot rolled, and coated steel sheets. • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment. • Maintain clean and organized work area in compliance with safety regulations. • Communicate with team members and supervisors regarding production status or issues. • Record production data and complete required documentation. Qualifications;Knowledge, Abilities, Skills: • Minimum 2 years of experienceoperating shearing equipment in a steel service center or similar environment. • Proficient in working with various steel types: cold rolled, hot rolled, and coated. • Strong understanding of steel gauges, material handling, and flatness requirements. • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including shop drawings and cut lists. • Strong math and measuring skills, including using tape measures, calipers, and micrometers. • Comfortable operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. • Strong commitment to safety and quality. • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs. • Knowledge of current crane and forklift operation preferred • Ability to perform complete setup and operational tasks of slitting to ensure compliance with the customer specifications • Ability to read and follow all work order instructions and complete necessary documentation • Strong communication skills • Ability and willingness to cooperate with co-workers and supervisors/management of the production team • Ability to work with little supervision • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Working Conditions:Plant environment, physical labor.
