Job Description

Job Title: Marine Inside Machinist Department: Mechanical Reports to: Dock Master Superintendent To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. POSITION SUMMARY: Experience in set up and operating various manual machine tools to produce precision parts. Use of precision instruments and necessary hand tools to fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical parts. Must have knowledge of shipboard equipment operation, disassembly/assembly, testing and record keeping of work performed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: • Meeting the needs and desires of all customers in a courteous and professional manner. • Knowledge of marine products, inventory control, equipment and tools. • Supervise, coordinate, or schedule the activities of the workers. • Confer with managerial or technical personnel to resolve problems. • Assist in coordinating work activities with other off-site project activities. • Estimate material or worker requirements to complete jobs. • Trade knowledge of mechanical principles of machinery operations, hydraulics, the machining of metals, mathematics, basis physics, and general science. • Ability to operate, set up, and align various horizontal and vertical lathes, milling machines, boring machines, drill presses, band saws, grinding wheels and all portable tools used in the trade. • Ability to use such precision measuring instruments as gauges, calipers, layout tools, and various types of calibrators. • Ability to shape metal parts to close tolerances, perform standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds and speeds of machines, fittings, and assembling parts into mechanical equipment. • Knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, standard material selection, and the parts and equipment required to perform machining work.Provide preliminary sketches or value estimates for materials or services.Do customer follow-ups.Communicate with manufacturers if possible, on technical equipment. • Inspect job site to ensure the safety of employees, customers and vendors from potential hazards. • Secure job site at the end of shift to minimize risk of loss or theft. • Knowledge to properly handle and store all hazardous materials. • Prioritize and manage time. • Wearing the proper personal protective equipment. • Ensure compliance with health, safety standards, and industry codes. • Other duties may be assigned. Other responsibilities within the accepted job scope may apply: • A pre-employment drug test is a pre-requisite of employment. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Maintain preventative maintenance logs. • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality. • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Assist with other miscellaneous jobsite tasks as directed. • Able to work well with others in a team environment. • Comply with all OSHA, shipyard safety and environmental policies and procedures. • Hold and maintain a valid driver license. • Travel may be required. • May be required to work more than the standard work week, including weekends. • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, & Outlook) for sourcing materials. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl. • Frequent lifting of up to 20lbs and occasional lifting of up to 50lbs. Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts. • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation. • Enter and move through manholes to reach and work in confined spaces. • Frequent use of respirator. • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
