Job Description An Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability is at the function level. What You’ll Do: • Design, build, and maintain backend systems and APIs that ingest, enrich, and distribute product data • Partner with product, platform, and engineering teams to understand how product data flows and how to improve it • Own features end-to-end—architecture, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iterating • Contribute to system design and code reviews, helping to uphold high engineering standards • Investigate and resolve production issues quickly and thoroughly • Drive continuous improvement across system performance, reliability, and developer experience Who You Are: • You get things done—quickly and with quality • You have grit and perseverance: you keep going when problems get messy • You learn new technologies and domains fast, and you don’t wait to be told what to do • You take ownership, work independently, and follow through • You value simplicity and clarity in both systems and communication • You thrive in a fast-moving environment and like to solve real business problems Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent practical experience • 3–5 years of experience building and maintaining production-grade software systems • Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or another modern backend language • Experience with REST APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native architectures • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) • Comfort working in high-throughput, data-centric environments Bonus Points For: • Experience in retail, commerce, or product/catalog data platforms • A strong track record of shipping features fast and iteratively • Contributions to system observability, alerting, or developer tools #LI-Hybrid We’ve got you covered… Our employees are our most important asset and that’s reflected in our benefits.
