Software Product Owner - Distributed Energy Resource Programs

We are currently seeking a Software Product Owner, Distributed Energy Resource Programs to join our Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) team and work in close coordination with the Information Systems (IS) team. The DERs team designs, develops, and runs programs that incentivize the adoption of various DERs including distributed solar, energy storage, demand response, microgrids, and electric vehicle grid integration. These leading-edge energy technologies are critical in driving our nation’s progress toward a decarbonized grid, and you will play a material role, both as an individual contributor and leader, in helping our team make this future a reality. You will support the DERs team by translating the department’s operational needs for the IS team, managing growth through effective prioritization and stakeholder engagement. 

You will bring strong analytical strength and solid communication skills to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to define and support the development of software projects and platforms in partnership with our software development team. This position is perfect for individuals who have strong skills in communicating complex technical ideas into simple business language and can influence the decisions from the business as well as from engineers.  

Primary Responsibilities:  

• Interact professionally with clients and to serve as the primary point of client contact for some projects   
• Leading collaboration with internal and external business stakeholders to clearly define the needs of the business 
• Participate and lead product prototyping and proof of concepts  
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications 
• Own the product backlog and prioritization of functional enhancements and prepare well-documented functional specifications and workflows for assigned projects  
• Owning direction, management, quality control and completion of software and/or program deliverables  
• Analyze current business processes and make recommendations for improvements based on industry trends, business knowledge and software architecture  
• Research analysis for complex business flows and apply problem solving skills to ensure the functional design is signed off and accurate  
• Meet with business stakeholders to discuss application functionality related to enterprise-wide or specific program initiative due to contractual agreements  
• Conduct or participate in meetings to identify requirements in how an application looks and feels to the end-user and provide feedback to clients to ensure technology application supports the internal/external customer needs  
• Maintain and communicate clear high-level priorities for software development 
• Complete ticket-level triage and prioritization for use by software project managers 
• Review tickets after release and ensure any follow-up steps are completed 
• Communicate status and results of product development efforts across the organization  
• Own and refine user stories and epics in Jira  
• Work with software developers and participate in the software release process  
• Serve as test coordinator with QA  

Minimum qualifications:  

• A bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science and/or other discipline 
• A minimum of 5 years software product or business analysis experience  
• A minimum of 5 years working with software developers – understanding the process of effective delivery and release of software   
• Experience working in Agile software development life cycle.  
• Good technical analyst skills translating business needs into technical specifications  
• Strong communication skills – especially adept at communicating effectively between non-technical users and technical software developers  
• Experience using Microsoft Office (Office365, SharePoint, OneNote)   
• Energy related professional experience is a plus  

Salary DOE:  $93,000 - $115,000/Annually
