Overview:
· Moderna Bar & Pizzeria - A Pizzeria - yes - but far more than that. Moderna will become the benchmark in Austin, Texas, a true chef-driven restaurant and bar, serving Artisan pizza combined with a complete selection of Italian small plates, salads, and a handful of Italian classics that includes chicken parmigiana and our scratch made selection of pastas. The pasta experience will be taken to the next level - prepared tableside for our guests - a true showstopper in the Moderna experience

Position overview:
We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our leadership team. The Sous chef will play a key role in supporting the Executive chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, consistency , and efficiency in a fast-paced environment. This position requires strong culinary skills, proven management experience, and the ability to lead and inspire a diverse team.
Responsibilities:
· Assist the Executive chef with daily kitchen operations, including prep, service, and closing procedures.
· Maintain the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and consistence of all dishes.
· Lead, train, and mentor line cooks, prep cooks, and kitchen staff to foster teamwork and accountability.
· Manage kitchen workflow during peak service in a high-volume environment.
· Contribute to menu development and seasonal specials with a focus on scratch cooking and Italian traditions.
· Monitor inventory, ordering, and cost controls to achieve financial goals.
· Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
· Step into leadership when the Executive chef is not present.
Qualifications:
· Minimum 3-5 years of professional culinary experience with at least 1-2 years in a leadership role.
· Strong background in scratch cooking; experience with Italian cuisine and wood-fired pizza a plus.
· Proven ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen
· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
· Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, ordering, and food cost management.
· Passion for mentoring and developing staff.
· Flexible schedule with availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
