Britten School Position Description Job Title: Classroom Teacher Effective Date: September 22, 2021 Job Group Teachers FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time Reports to: Britten School Co-Executive Directors Supervises: None Summary of Position:The classroom teacher provides direct instruction to assigned students within a self-contained classroom. The teacher is responsible for the development and facilitation of the student’s IEP. The teacher is a special educator who creates a learning environment suitable to the needs of socially/emotionally-disturbed students by performing the following duties: Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide daily classroom management and organization including monitoring student behavior in accordance with the school wide behavior management plan and compute hourly point sheet data when necessary; keep the classroom as a tidy and welcoming environment. • Provide daily curriculum according to state standards, school policy, and the individual student's IEP; provides direct instruction to assigned students in a variety of teaching modes, i.e. large group instruction, small group instruction, and individual tutoring. • Maintain student classroom files in accordance with ISBE regulations, including benchmark documentation, IEP development, and classroom performance, i.e. formal and informal assessment measures. • Prepare for and provide a professional presentation in a comprehensive manner as required for staffing and any faculty meeting forum; develop and maintain communication with parents through home/school logs and phone calls. • Provide grade reports on a quarterly basis within the parameters of established format and within the guidelines of school policy; provide ThinkWave. • Ensure the academic orientation of each new student to the classroom; provide assessment during orientation for students on academic skills utilizing formal and curriculum-based tests; conducts additional assessments as required by school administration; assist with the administration of IAR testing. • Provide administration of student medication in accordance with school policy including accurately completed medication forms, daily documentation of administration, and safely securing medication in a locked medication box within a locked cabinet. Responsible to report to School Administration any errors in administering medication along with immediate follow up phone calls to parents. • Volunteer to serve on committees and assist with various special programming throughout the school year. • Follow and enact the school’s established behavior management plan, the MANDT System. Technical Requirements – Education, Areas of Knowledge and Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree in Education. • At least one year of special education teaching experience. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals or government regulations. • Ability to write reports and business correspondence. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, parents and the general public. • Ability to compute, rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Behavioral Requirements - Personal Skills and Competencies: • The interpersonal skills necessary to interact with students in an appropriate clinical fashion and to maintain professional relationships with colleagues, referring school districts, and parents. • The analytical ability necessary to assess, evaluate, and provide the correct curriculum and clinical interventions to promote school success. • Flexibility to continually adapt to the needs of the students and the program. Certifications, Licenses and Registrations: • Illinois State Board of Education Certification – Type 10 in the special education area of Social/Emotional Disorder, Learning Disorders, and EMH or Learning Behavior Specialist I Unlimited.
