Job Description

A George Gervin Prep Academy special education (SPED) teacher is responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, providing tailored instruction, collaborating with other educators and parents, and monitoring student progress. The SPED teacher adapts the curriculum, utilizes adaptive technology, and ensures students receive appropriate services within the least restrictive environment. Responsibilities: • · Creating, implementing, and evaluating IEPs, including transition plans and behavior management plans. • · Obtaining and monitoring student progress data to show the effectiveness of interventions. • · Developing and implementing strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. • · Providing direct, individualized, and small group instruction. • · Adapting curriculum and using adaptive devices/technology to make content accessible. • · Employing special educational strategies to improve sensory-motor skills, language, cognition, or memory. • · Teaching basic skills, such as colors, shapes, numbers, and social skills, to preschool students with special needs. • · Collaborating with general education teachers to ensure student success in the least restrictive environment. • · Communicating with parents, administrators, and other professionals to develop and implement IEPs. • · Facilitating and leading collaborative special education meetings. • · Observing and evaluating student performance, behavior, and social development. • · Maintaining accurate records of student progress and completing necessary documentation. • · Analyzing student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment. • · Ensuring compliance with all state and federal special education regulations. • · Participating in professional development to stay current with best practices in special education. • · Adhering to all federal, state, district, and special education policies and procedures. • · Teaching socially acceptable behavior using techniques like behavior modification and positive reinforcement. • · Teaching personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy. • · Utilizing and maintaining adaptive technology to support student learning. • · Keeping parents informed of student progress and providing support and guidance. • · Working with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other support staff to provide comprehensive services.
