Job Summary:
At Embrace Learning Institute, the role of Special Education Teacher goes beyond classroom support, this position is central to leading instructional planning, delivering individualized education, and supporting students with behavioral and cognitive differences. In addition to teaching and direct support, the Special Education Teacher provides leadership to the Lead Behavioral & Educational Support Specialists (Lead BESS) and serves as a key partner to the school’s administrative team. This position helps ensure that all students receive consistent, compassionate, and high-quality educational and behavioral support.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Guides and supports daily activities of assigned Lead BESS staff
• Conducts informal check-ins and collaborates on performance feedback
• Oversees the completion and accuracy of student data entry and documentation
• Assists with onboarding, training, and coaching of support staff
• Serves as the primary point of contact between the Lead BESS team and site administrators
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Design and implement individualized curriculum and behavior strategies based on IEPs and student needs
• Deliver academic instruction and modify lesson plans to support varied learning styles and abilities
• Create a safe, inclusive, and structured environment using trauma-informed and evidence-based methods
• Monitor and assess student progress; collect and review academic and behavioral data regularly
• Collaborate with families, service providers, and school staff to ensure coordinated care
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to IEPs, BIPs, and progress reporting
• Provide leadership to support staff in instructional consistency, crisis prevention, and classroom management
• Delegate classroom or site responsibilities to support team as needed (e.g., materials prep, classroom setup, cleaning)
• Administer medication or other student-specific supports if trained and authorized
• Act as a communication bridge between support staff and the administrative team

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
• Deep understanding of special education practices, IEP processes, and trauma-informed support
• Skilled in de-escalation, redirection, and adaptive instruction
• Ability to model professionalism, empathy, and instructional best practices
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field required
• Valid Washington State General Education Teaching Certificate required
• Washington State Special Education Certification required
• Minimum of two years experience in special education or behavioral support settings required
• Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience strongly preferred
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day
• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds as needed
• Able to kneel, sit, crawl, push, pull, and support students with physical or emotional needs
Prolonged periods of computer work for documentation and planning
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $95,000.00 per year
