The SSN GL is expected to expand the use of global knowledge, data and convening power to enhance the design of our operations and to enrich advisory services for our clients who seek to end extreme poverty, promote shared prosperity and overcome the impoverishing effects of conflicts, disasters, and economic shocks. Almost 170 staff in SPJ GP have affiliated themselves with the SSN GSG. Strategic directions of the work area: improvement of our core knowledge base on design and implementation of cash transfers, public works, and other instruments of social assistance. The SSN GSG is also the SPJ focal point of institution -wide efforts to respond to emerging challenges, such as refugee crises, climate change adaptation, bridging the gap with humanitarian aid, contributing to the adaptive SP agenda. We invest in expanding knowledge on new topics in cooperation with other GSGs. Recent themes have been: SSN in urban contexts, SSN to enhance nutrition, food security and human capital, the role of SSN in disaster risk response and adaptation, SSN in crisis, fragile and conflict affected states, SSN to facilitate energy subsidy reform. Given that SSN are at the forefront of expanding the SP coverage, the SSN GSG is also actively contributing to international partnership within the Universal Social Protection and SDG agendas. The SSN GSG is providing curated knowledge on lessons learned for all types of country engagements, ranging from strategic systemic engagement over many years to the highly specific, punctual and customized services to develop new engagements.
