Position: Sr. Accountant
Company: A Houston‑based, wholly‑owned subsidiary of a major Japanese specialty chemicals group, specializes in producing and distributing advanced plastics, and other specialty chemicals/materials across North and South America
Work Location: Houston, TX
Work Hours: M- F 8::00-17:00 or 9:00 - 18:00 (1 hour break)
Work Style: First 1-2 months Training at the office after that Hybrid work is available (3 days office /a week)
Salary Range: $85-95K/year base
Report to: Accounting Manager (direct) CFO (indirect)
SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for handling all aspects of general accounting duties for the company
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Following is a list of primary duties and responsibilities which take up the majority of time on a daily basis. The Accountant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. This list is not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
• Handles accounts payables - by verifying invoices; by issuing checks; by entering data; by answering vendor inquiries regarding payments; by preparing accounts payable reports as required; and by performing any accounts payable related duties as assigned.
• Handles accounts receivables - by issuing invoices; by making deposits; by entering data; by preparing accounts receivable reports as required; and by performing any accounts receivable related duties as assigned.
• Conducts monthly closing - by executing bank reconciliation; by reviewing the general ledger; by adjusting entries; by maintaining of balance sheet schedules; by generating financial statements; and by performing any monthly closings related duties as assigned.
• Explain results of closing and prepare actual/forecast income statement sheet for sister company in timely manner; by summarizing and transferring the financial data into actual/forecast income statement sheet; by analyzing the reasons of the results; by explaining sister company’s members for the reasons; by adjusting forecast data such as production amount as per requests.
• Handles accounting and other audit – by preparing documents and data requested by auditors; and by answering auditor’s inquiries.
• Performs accounting related administrative duties – by preparing documents and data for corporate and other taxes; by issuing necessary tax documents to the IRS and other agencies; by generating accounting reports; by maintaining accounting related records; and by filing accounting related documents;
• Communicates with Accounting Manager - by reporting the progress of closing; by seeking advice for any job related issues; and by reporting all irregular issues and problems to management for solution.
• Examines existing accounting procedures - by analyzing and identifying problems with the existing accounting procedures; by finding solutions to the problems and reporting them to Accounting Manager with recommendations for improvement; and by coordinating, installing, modifying, documenting and implementing accounting systems and accounting procedures; and by creating or updating procedural manuals.
• Complies with company policies, rules and procedures - by reading, understanding, and abiding by the employee handbook and other company policies; by cooperating with the company’s administrative requests; and by following procedures as set by the company.
• Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties - by taking initiative in accordance with the corporate objectives; and by performing tasks assigned by Senior Accounting Manager and other managements; and by establishing and maintaining a positive work relationship with coworkers.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties take up a minor part of the day on a daily basis, but still must be performed to be able to perform the job successfully. This list is not all inclusive.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BS - Accounting preferred
Work Experience:
• Experience with creating financial statements
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
• Experience with explanation of financial statements to the department other than Finance and Accounting.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Knowledge of local, state and federal laws regarding accounting, finances and taxation
• Knowledge of ERP system operation
Certificates, Licenses, Qualifications, and Registrations Required:
• Proficiency with computer software
ERP system, MS - Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat
