Role:
As a Senior Metal Decorator Technician, you’ll be the go-to expert on the decorator equipment (Concord), ensuring VulCan’s cans leave the plant with flawless, high-quality prints. You’ll lead the setup, operation, and maintenance of decorator machines, mentor other technicians, and play a key role in training, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.Your experience will help keep the decorator running at peak performance—reducing downtime, improving print accuracy, and ensuring we consistently deliver the highest-quality cans to our customers.
Responsibilities:
• Lead setup, operation, and preventive maintenance of Concord decorator.
• Ensure print quality, alignment, color consistency, and varnish application meet specifications.
• Troubleshoot and repair decorator-related equipment, including ovens, pin chains, and mandrels.
• Support changeovers, plate/blanket swaps, and coil replacements with efficiency and precision.
• Conduct detailed quality checks to ensure decorated cans meet or exceed customer standards.
• Train and mentor other technicians on decorator operations, troubleshooting, and best practices.
• Collaborate with leads, supervisors, technicians, and engineering to resolve issues quickly and minimize downtime.
• Assist in documenting and refining standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Uphold all FDA, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Drive initiatives to reduce waste while maintaining world-class quality.
• Other duties as necessary and assigned.
Requirements:
• 5+ years of direct experience in can-making, with significant hands-on time on decorator equipment (either Concord or Rutherford)---REQUIRED.
• Proven expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining complex production equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude; confident with both hand and power tools.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and mentor less experienced technicians.
• Ability to analyze print quality and make fine technical adjustments.
• Attention to safety, quality, and compliance standards.
• Color vision sufficient to distinguish and adjust ink shades, hues, and varnishes to maintain print quality.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, climb stairs, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand for long shifts.
• Forklift/scissor lift certification a plus.
