General Summary:
UNUM is looking to expand our mainframe system programmer team as we look at the technical solutions to expand our support of existing and future business requirements as well as resiliency. Our team of innovative mainframe system programmers are looking for pioneers of technology to assist with our vision of the mainframe and where it can take us. If you are an out of the box thinker, like new technology, have a futuristic view of what the mainframe can do please come and join our team.
This candidate will have systems programming experience installing, configuring, supporting z/OS software. in additions to working on various Proofs of Concepts of technologies such as zCX and WAZI and looking at software solutions to assist the Business such as DVM Data Virtualization.
The z/OS Systems Programmer is responsible for installing, customizing, and maintaining the z/OS operating system for IBM and non-IBM software as well as working on projects with various teams within and outside the Mainframe environment.
They will work on various Proofs of Concepts to further research and evaluate new/existing software products and how they can support Business requirements as well as prepare the Mainframe for future initiatives. The person will assist our team members with technical questions, direction, tuning and problem resolution. Monitoring and tuning of software will also be a part of the daily routine.
The z/OS Systems Programmer will:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or the equivalent unique education, specialized experience, skills, knowledge or training
- Has 6+ years of related work experience
- Install and customize IBM and third-party software using SMP/E or vendor specific installation
- Provide leadership within the team
- Provide mentoring to others inside and outside the team
- Research and evaluate software products.
- Ensure 24x7x365 Business reliability, availability, and scalability
- Support of Capacity Planning, Disaster Recover, etc.
Required Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of z/Enterprise server technology, software technology, systems analysis, research techniques, systems development standards and quality and cost controls.
- Advanced knowledge of components of z/OS operating system, SYSPLEX, CICS/TS, DB2, TSO, JES2, WLM and interaction.
- Skilled at JCL and REXX
- Knowledge of multiple software components SMPE, HCD/IOD, JES2, VTAM, TCP/IP, TSO/ISPF, SYNCSORT, SDSF, SMF, WLM, RACF, WebSphere MQ, z/OSMF, and various OEM system software such as MOBIUS, Tivoli SA, VPS, CA-VIEW, SAS
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Able to install and integrate third-party software.
- Able to document troubleshoot problems and communicate with business and technical personnel at all levels.
- Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,400.00-$174,800.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
