Job Description
Compensation:$120,000-$150,000 per year. You are eligible to a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 7.5% of your annual earnings, terms and conditions apply.
Sr. Database Administrator-Remote, USA
As a database administrator at Ambry, you will be working with multiple engineering teams to monitor, define, and manage several small and large databases across the company. The DBA ensures access to the database and has maximized uptime within the defined constraints. You will have the opportunity to create innovative solutions and leverage the latest technologies to make our diagnostics-testing better. We use agile development methodology and expect our DBAs to be self-motivated, work well independently, and work with our developers during software design, development, and deployments.
Essential Functions
- The DBA will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our database systems to ensure they are secure, scalable, and reliable. You will work closely with our development team to ensure that our applications meet business requirements and technical specifications.
- The DBA will be responsible for overseeing the organization of databases, assessment, and implementation of new technologies.
- Perform patching, backup and recovery of databases, index maintenance, performance tuning and monitoring of databases.
- Conduct root cause analysis within a ticketing system and incident response forms on critical database events.
- Support horizontal scale outs for HA proxys, MySQL GTID replication server farms in a big data, high volume LAMP stack environment.
- Provide recommendations and strategies to application developers on how to improve performance and scalability of their database components.
- The DBA will be responsible for working with Architecture, Application Development, and IT Operations groups to develop both physical and logical database administration functions.
- Establishing data disaster recovery best practices
- Familiarity with database masking utilities such as Delphix Continuous Compliance.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be able to effectively coordinate, communicate, and multi-task across various groups and functional teams inside and outside of the organization.
- Advanced experience with administration (installation, management, configuration, monitoring, backing up, restoring, upgrading, and patching) of either Kafka, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, Redis, Presto, Spark, or similar data platforms
- Experience with establishing and implementing database security and backup retention policies.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems independently
- Experience implementing database schema changes in live production environment requiring minimal downtime and zero performance impact.
- Experience with managing the full life-cycle of database schema design and implementation, which includes script management from development through production releases.
- Experience with scaling up and out (e.g. sharding based on specific keys) databases to meet the needs of increased storage and computing capacity.
- Bachelor's in computer science (or similar relevant specialization) or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of DBA experience.
Preferred
- Master's degree
- 4+ years of extensive experience in AWS.
- AWS certifications are a big plus; Database Specialty in particular.
- Experience implementing cloud solutions in Healthcare and Life sciences space.
