Our Corporate Technology business unit is currently seeking an Sr. R & D Scientist. In this role, you will be responsible for developing new membranes or enhancing of existing membranes within our comprehensive range of filtration products. As an essential member of our collaborative team, you will take the lead in this membrane development, using a systematic approach to gain a fundamental understanding of the chemistry and processes involved.

This position is based in Bloomington, MN, but will interact with the membrane team at our EMEA headquarters in Leuven, Belgium, as well as various R&D and engineering teams across the company in various locations.

Role Responsibilities:

Research & Development

  • Lead the development of advanced membrane fabrication methodologies through formulation development and advanced process controls.
  • Lead programs to assess and enhance technical capabilities related to organic polymer-based membranes, encompassing knowledge, processes, and methods.
  • Utilize sound statistical methods to design experiments, analyze test results, and compose technical project reports.
  • Provide guidance on critical problem areas, offer alternative solutions, and outline potential consequences throughout the research and development process.
  • Take the lead in developing testing equipment and methodologies to validate media performance.
  • Explore the potential benefits of emerging technologies, staying informed about new methods, techniques, materials, and other technical advances.

Collaboration

  • Must possess a positive work attitude and demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a globally structured team.
  • Lead frequent and productive collaborations with other development groups to exchange knowledge and expedite technology development.
  • Communicate project updates through technical reports and/or presentations to senior management and technical collaboration groups.
  • Share an understanding of fundamental physics principles, state-of-the-art technologies, and manufacturing techniques with program teams.
  • Collaborate with the Legal and scientific communities on Intellectual Property analysis and filing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Material Science, especially with a focus on polymers
  • Strong knowledge of basic principles in polymer science

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or Material Science, focus on polymeric media or membrane development
  • Knowledge of Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration is considered an asset
  • Proficiency in mechanical, chemical, and manufacturing design
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude in material development, prototype builds, and laboratory work.
  • Strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and keen attention to detail.
  • A solid understanding of the overall program, with an ability to balance investments, risks, and results, is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Travel:

  • The position may require up to 10% travel, including domestic and possible international travel
