Job Description
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounting operations, and ensuring compliance with company financial policies and industry regulations. This role requires strong attention to detail and extensive accounting knowledge.
Duties/Responsibilities:
β’ Perform general job cost accounting and related financial duties to ensure accurate reporting.
β’ Manage Accounts Receivable, including all job billing, payment posting, oversight of bank transactions, and collection of past due accounts ensuring timely payments from clients.
β’ Assist in creating procedures and preparing and maintaining monthly financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
β’ Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
β’ Review and assist with Accounts Payable to ensure accuracy with coding and entry.
β’ Assist in conducting monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, verify deposits, and address inquiries from financial institutions.
β’ Assist external auditors by preparing necessary documentation and financial reports for annual audits.
β’ Assist in filing of tax forms with federal, state, and local agencies in compliance with regulatory requirements. Prepare and submit monthly sales tax returns.
β’ Recommend any updates or changes to promote continuous improvement.
β’ Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and industry best practices.
β’ Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned to support team and company operations.
Project Related Duties/Responsibilities:
β’ Prepare and submit billings for each project, including all required supporting documentation.
β’ Complete and/or generate Conditional and Unconditional Lien Releases as required for billings.
β’ Request and track monthly billing submissions from subcontractors, ensuring deadlines are met by the 15th, 20th, 25th, or end of each month.
β’ Enter change orders and submit finalized change orders to Owners and Subcontractors.
Required Skills/Abilities:
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
β’ Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail
β’ In-depth knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting principles
β’ Ability to analyze financial data and ensure compliance with GAAP
β’ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
β’ Preferred experience with Vista by Viewpoint Software
Education and Experience:
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
β’ Minimum of four years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
Salary offered is $65,000-$70,000/year, and can be adjusted depending on experience and performance of candidate, upon reaching a 90 day review.
