Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties to support the financial operations of Virtus Commercial and its managed properties. This role assists with general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP. The Staff Accountant works closely with the Accounting Manager and property management team to ensure accurate and timely financial data.
Key Responsibilities
· General Accounting
1. Experience working with leases and calculating CAM.
2. Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
3. Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
4. Assist in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
· Reconciliations & Reporting
5. Perform bank and account reconciliations for assigned properties and accounts.
6. Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.
7. Analyze account variances and provide explanations to management.
· Accounts Payable & Receivable
8. Process vendor invoices and ensure proper coding to accounts.
9. Maintain vendor files and verify vendor compliance with insurance and contract requirements.
10. Prepare tenant billings and process incoming payments.
11. Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables.
· Budget Support
12. Assist in compiling and maintaining property operating budgets.
13. Input budget data into accounting systems and generate budget-to-actual reports.
· Compliance & Audit Support
14. Ensure adherence to GAAP and company accounting policies.
15. Assist with documentation and schedules for audits and tax filings.
15. Support internal control procedures to safeguard assets.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
· 1–3 years of accounting experience; commercial real estate experience a plus.
· Knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
· Proficient in accounting software (Yardi, MRI, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
· Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment
Primarily office-based with standard business hours.
May require occasional overtime during reporting periods or special projects.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
