Staff Database Administrator

We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL/MySQL/AuroraDB DBA. In this role you will be building, configuring, tuning, and maintaining databases that are running in AWS. You will continually maintain databases to address new vulnerabilities and to keep them up to date. Our ideal candidate has a curiosity to understand the applications that interact with the databases that you’ll work with and a mindset/desire to work with others to deploy applications against your databases, improve performance, find issues, and troubleshoot problems that may arise. 

The US-based salary range for this position is $166,400 to $220,000. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary- therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.

• Setting data standards for our main MySQL instances and other application data stores
• Working with internal customers to guide appropriate data patterns, utilization, storage and consumption
• Partner with our Data Analytics team to democratize data within our application stores
• Work to “right align” our data stores with appropriate use cases and financial goals
• Consistently eliminate technical debt within our application data stores
• Partner with other Cloud Staff engineers to set proper data storage/consumption patterns
• Partner with our Cloud Architecture Council to advise on application data, multi-region data, and globalization
• Work deeply with our platform teams to aid in ensuring adherence to SLOs, minimizing data latency, replication patterns, and caching strategies.

• Experience in designing, building, configuring and maintaining various databases in AWS
• Experience in creating, configuring and maintaining clustering databases
• Experience with databases supporting high-volume, scalable, data-intensive systems
• Expert experience in performance tuning, query optimization, authentication, and partitioning
• Expert SQL scripting
• Experience with database security concepts, including access, auditing, and encryption
• Experience authoring scripts in Bash
• Experience with business continuity and recovery architecture processes
• Ability to learn how applications work by analyzing schema, querying data, and reviewing SQL
• Understanding of server hardware, including RAM, CPU, permanent storage, I/O, and other capacity related resources
• Experience in database capacity planning and forecasting
• Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication with the ability to intuitively put ideas into tangible form
• Must be able to participate in on-call rotation
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Bonus points

• Experience with a high performance, high volume, low latency, 24x7x365 always-up, always available production database environment
• Experience with deploying, configuring and maintaining databases in AWS
• Experience in data sharding
• Experience in data design, schema design, analysis, data migration
• Experience with Perl or Python
• Experience in one, or more, of PL/pgSQL , PL/Perl , PL/Python (Java a plus)
