Texas Children’s presence in Austin helps support a pediatric population of more than half a million and keeps kids healthy and happy from birth to adulthood. Texas Children’s first health care location in Austin, Texas Children’s Urgent Care West Gate, opened in March 2018, providing high quality pediatric-focused care after hours and on weekends. There are now more than 15 Texas Children’s Pediatric primary care practices in the greater Austin area providing full-service family care including routine childhood immunizations, well visits, and sick care.

Responsibilities:
• Ensures medications meet the highest standards
• Participates in the education of patients, caregivers, and the community
• Supports patient safety systems
• Checks all available means of communication including e-mail, mailbox, and voicemail every shift
• Ensures the smooth running of the pharmacy and acts as a role model for technicians and other pharmacists as evidenced by lack of complaints, medication incident reports, and peer review
• Maintains investigational drug records according to departmental policy
• Contribute to the medication management process
• Conduct discharge medication review (difficult to obtain, prescription accuracy) and counseling, ensuring that patients/caregivers understand their medication therapies upon discharge
• Participates in study initiation, maintenance and closure
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or Ph.D. in Pharmacy required
• RPH certification from the state of Texas required
• 2+ years hospital staff pharmacist experience preferred
• 20 hours of training in compounding sterile products accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education or the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists preferred
