Job Description
We are an independent pharmacy located on the Southern California Hospital Campus inside of a medical building. We specialize in retail, non-sterile, specialty and infusion services. We are looking for a full-time pharmacist. Approximately 40-45 hours a week
Position to begins ASAP.
You will play a personal role within your community by ensuring that your patients receive medication and care that they need. It's everything from immunizations, patient consultations, non-sterile compounding, to training and mentoring our pharmacy technician's. We are looking for someone that does not mind a high paced environment and multitasking with at ease to change and adjust to thrive in independent community pharmacy settings. Key components to manage a successful pharmacy requires understanding regulatory requirements, quality assurance, personnel management, inventory management, workflow management, financial profitability, patient safety, loss prevention and most of all sustaining a professional pharmaceutical practice.
Retail Aspect- Pharmacists typically do the following:
• Fill prescriptions, verifying instructions from physicians on the proper amounts of medication to give to patients
• Check whether the prescription will interact negatively with other drugs that a patient is taking or any medical conditions the patient has
• Instruct patients on how and when to take a prescribed medicine and inform them about potential side effects they may experience from taking the medicine
• Advise patients about general health topics, such as diet, exercise, and managing stress, and on other issues, such as what equipment or supplies would be best to treat a health problem
• Complete insurance forms and work with insurance companies to ensure that patients get the medicines they need
• Oversee the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in training (interns)
• Keep records and do other administrative tasks
• Teach other healthcare practitioners about proper medication therapies for patients
• Periodically assesses the Pharmacy System Batch Status Monitor and other automated tools to determine workflow, dispensing and toting needs. This includes changing daily work assignment to meet workflow needs.
• Review company policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations, to ensure compliance.
• Follow all company policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations and is charged with taking the appropriate action and reporting violations to the appropriate supervisor.
Non-Sterile Compounding Aspect- Pharmacists typically do the following:
• Review prescriptions issued by prescribers to assure accuracy and determine formulas or ingredient needed.
• Perform mathematical calculations for orders
• Mixing pharmaceutical preparations, according to written prescriptions
• Cleaning and helping to maintain equipment or work areas and sterilize glassware, according to prescribed methods
• Is knowledgeable regarding the proper use and handling of sterile and hazardous medications. Compounds and handles sterile and hazardous medications in accordance with established guidelines and regulations (i.e. USP < 797>)
• Participate in pharmacy Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement activities.
• Document and investigate errors and variances.
Requirements:
• *Must be licensed and in good standing in the state of CALIFORNIA
• Excellent Computer skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to problem solve, make decisions in a fast-paced environment, and meet deadlines
• Software experience preferred yet not required (DigitalRX)
• Prior pharmacy experience required but open to new eager new Grads
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $62.00 - $64.00 per hour
