Forter is looking for a Staff Engineer who's passionate about back-end development and building scalable and resilient systems. An experienced Engineer with an ownership mentality to to take a leading role in our Platform Extensions team, building critical components that enable merchants to leverage Forter’s products. 

The Platform Extensions team’s goal is to provide merchants with e-comm platform extensions that create a seamless onboarding experience and provide real-time, accurate decisioning.

The team is responsible for ensuring that merchants who use e-comm platforms, and especially their developer teams, can get up and running using our services as quickly and as easily as possible. We do this by providing them with eCommerce-platform extensions, and we strive to make the merchant developer experience a pleasant one. In order to provide real-time, accurate decisioning that our customers rely on, the team must ensure that its high-throughput systems that process events from these platforms are robust and built to scale.

This is an exciting opportunity to partner with teams across Forter to create the best onboarding experience possible and to provide merchants with accurate, real time decisions.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build and maintain our third-party e-commerce platform extensions. Learn the platform ecosystems and how to integrate with them, become knowledgeable in extension architectures and how they connect to Forter, understand the different extension features and how they fit into the various Forter flows, and how they provide value to our merchants.
  • Initiate, lead, and own complex development projects, work with stakeholders to define features and scope, and guide decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Build a great customer experience for your products’ users.
  • Collaborate with staff & principal engineers on cross-team initiatives.
  • Work with a variety of programming languages and platforms (Node.js, Python, Terraform, K8S, Elasticsearch, MySQL, AWS S3, AWS sqs, AWS sns, Azure, Redis, Kafka).
  • Thrive in a collaborative environment involving various stakeholders (product, analytics, engineering, and more) within the company by planning, brainstorming, and sharing feedback.
  • Mentor and be mentored by other engineers.

What you’ll need:

  • At least 5 years of experience writing and maintaining complex backend systems using a modern programming language (2+ years of Node.JS is required).
  • Experience with web-services.
  • Experience with high-throughput, fault-tolerant event-driven microservices architecture.
  • Experience with an event-based stack such as Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with distributed, cloud-based systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills in heterogeneous production environments.
  • Comfortability in a dynamic atmosphere of a highly technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base.

We’d love it if you have:

  • Experience with AWS and Azure.
  • Built modules for e-commerce platforms (e.g. Magento, Demandware).
  • Experience working with or building online payments interfaces.
  • Experience in the e-commerce space.
