The Opportunity This position works out of ourIrving, TX or Santa Clara, CAlocations in theCore DiagnosticsBusiness Group. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. We are seeking an experienced and independentStaffSoftware Engineerto join our Hematology Division, supporting the development and maintenance of advanced blood testing instruments. This role is critical to both new product development and the resolution of escalated technical issues. You will work in a dynamic, high-volume environment alongside a small, collaborative team split into Front-End and Data Processing sub-teams. What You’ll Work On • Supports hematology instruments used in blood testing and analysis. • Two sub-teams: Front-End Engineering (FSE) and Data Processing. • High interdependency and collaboration; flexibility and coordination are essential. • Fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment with high expectations for quality and responsiveness. • Ideal for seasoned, independent engineers who thrive in dynamic settings • Participate in new development of software for hematology instruments. • Investigate and resolveescalated product complaints. • Design and implementsoftware changes and enhancements. • Conducttesting on actual instrumentsto validate functionality. • Performformal code reviewsand ensure adherence to quality standards. • Write and executedevelopment-level testsfor new and modified code. • Executehigh-paced validation and verificationactivities. • Addressnon-conformancesand supportfinal releaseprocesses. • Collaborate with management onquality and complianceaspects. • Focus onC++ coding, debugging, and validation in a regulated environment. • May conduct design analysis on components and/or assemblies to assist in the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, manufacturable, and reliable. • Communicates with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and assure project completion. • May act as internal consultant providing technical guidance on most complex projects. • This is a non-supervisory position. • Follows defined software development lifecycle procedures and • Abbott's quality system procedures. • Expert in local software development procedures. • Supports mentoring junior level engineers on Abbott and local processes and practices • May participate in CFT team to identify and implement improvements to local procedures. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. • 8+ years of related experience or a Master’s degree and 6+ years of related experience preferably in medical devices or regulated industries. • Proficiency in C++ and experience with embedded systems or instrument control. • Strong understanding of software validation, code reviews, and quality assurance practices. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in the medical device industry or other regulated environments (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485). • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-changing environment. • Familiarity with instrumentation, data processing, or front-end engineering. • Knowledge of software lifecycle processes and risk management. • Able to work variable hours. • Ability to work on site. The base pay for this position is $97,300.00 – $194,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
