Job Description
The Staff Systems Engineer is responsible for executing the efforts and duties around building and maintaining the systems and applications in SaaS hosted environments that contain sensitive PHI and PII data. The Staff Systems Engineer is responsible for executing the gathering and documentation of technical requirements and then turning those requirements into effective, scalable, and best of breed solutions. The Staff Systems Engineer assists in the administration of production and non-production validation environments, assessment and implementation of new technologies and providing long-term perspectives by contributing to the technical roadmap. The Staff Systems Engineer leads and mentors’ junior members of the team in various work duties and assignments and lead efforts and projects with the ability to work effectively with peers in Engineering, Development, Product Management, Customer Support Groups and Services. Â
A day in the life!Â
Key Activities:Â
- Creates standards and leads the efforts to install, configure high performing, highly available and secure infrastructure and systems in a 24/7 SaaS environment located in datacenters and public cloudsÂ
- Assists with production change management processes and participates in on call dutiesÂ
- Leads the efforts to create and maintain documentation as it relates to system builds and configurations, system administration, associated processes, policies, including business continuity and disaster recoveryÂ
- Executes on the planning and creation of enterprise class, best in breed systems, services, and solutionsÂ
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and complies with HIPAA and other privacy and security practices and all required regulatory controls in accordance with NIST Cyber Security Framework, FIPS, 45 CFR § 160 and 164 as requiredÂ
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional groups and working groupsÂ
- Resolves and documents incidents and problems effectively and in a timely mannerÂ
- Responds to the needs and requests of clients and management and teams in a professional and expedient mannerÂ
- Trains and mentors other team members as assigned or requiredÂ

Job Requirements:Â
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experienceÂ
- Preferred majors are Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems/Decision Sciences, Mathematics, Sciences, or other STEM related majorsÂ
- 10 years or equivalent experience in IT Systems EngineeringÂ
- Able to translate business requests and problem management cases into actionable work efforts, project plans and architecturesÂ
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and can mentor and assist others to resolve issues within the physical, data layer, network layer, transport layer and presentation layer; throughout the datacenter, which includes hardware, software, systems, and platforms Â

Preferred Requirements:Â
- At least 8 years’ hands-on experience in a SaaS environment or equivalent demonstration in an enterprise environment that supported large hosted applications for large amounts of end usersÂ
- At least 8 years hands-on experience in a HIPPA environment or equivalent demonstration of similar regulator controls and processesÂ
- At least 8 years’ hands-on experience designing, configuring, and deploying SAN’s, networks servers, hypervisors, presentation services, user authentication systems and major hardware and software vendorsÂ
- At least 8 years’ hands-on handling incidents, problems and business requests in a SaaS or equivalent enterprise environmentÂ
- At least 8 years’ hands-on experience working within and creating InfoSec and compliance solutions, controls, and processes (MFA, SSO, Audits, Policy Review, Anti-Virus/Malware, IDS, IPS, Pen and Vulnerability Testing, VPN’s, Certs, SSL/TLS, Firewalls etc.)Â
- Has at least 3 years’ working in a DevOps environmentÂ
- Experience with Agile, Scrum and/or KanBanÂ
- Experience of software development processes and web applications a plusÂ
- Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible) are a plusÂ
