Structural Engineer

Your Opportunity

The role of a Structural Engineer is to work independently on smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the direction of a Structural Team Lead (STL) or Senior Engineer, on a variety of hydraulic structure projects. The Structural Engineer will be responsible for preparing designs, plans, and assessments of hydraulic, environmental, industrial, and general structural engineering projects such as spillways, dams, pumping stations, tanks, culverts, pipe systems, and a variety of other water related structures. The Structural Engineer will be actively involved in meeting schedules and resolving problems to successfully deliver projects. This role will include occasional field inspection work and may also include occasional assistance with the design of bridges and other transportation structures.

A Structural Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which include assisting with the development of plans and designs, analyses, inspections and assessments, report writing, coordinating with other disciplines, and other engineering facets in the production of contract technical documents for the analysis or construction of structures and facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Performs complex engineering design tasks and uses knowledge of relevant structural engineering principles for a variety of hydraulic, environmental, and industrial structures of varying size and complexity.
• May be responsible for the review and sealing of own projects or the work of others.
• Responsible for preparing construction contract documents, plans, and reports, including performing Quality Control (QC) checks on design calculations and drawings.
• Conducts interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.
• Coordinate with clients, governmental agencies, utilities, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
• Performs field work as required, or as directed by a senior engineer or project manager.
• Performs calculations using company standard software and proprietary industry software.
• Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
• Trains less experienced team members in day-to-day activities including routine technical design, processing, and company procedures.
• Be a leader to ensure the Quality Management Plan is followed for all client submittals.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Solid structural engineering design experience.
• Ability to create and interpret sketches, drawings, and other similar documents.
• Efficient project management of several concurrent projects.
• Detailed understanding of all phases of project document production.
• Technical knowledge in all relevant areas of design and understanding of various design methods.
• Thorough understanding of codes, legal, and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Proficiency in an industry standard FEM software (SAP2000 or Robot are preferred).
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
• Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others.

Education and Experience

Master's degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering or related field & Licensed Professional Engineer. Minimum 5 years of experience.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
