The IBM mainframe (Z Systems) is responsible for most credit card transactions and is used by the many of the top insurers banks retailers and airlines. IBM z/VM® is an operating system with highly secure and scalable hypervisor and virtualization technology designed to run Linux® z/OS® z/VSE® and z/TPF virtual machines as well as Red Hat® OpenShift® on IBM zSystems™ and IBM LinuxONE servers. z/VM provides a highly secure and scalable environment for efficiently running critical Linux applications with support for more Linux virtual servers than any other platform in a single footprint.
The z/VM team is a worldwide team primarily located in Poughkeepsie NY with expansion plans in Bangalore India. All phases of the software life cycle are performed within this team including the design development test performance as well as supporting the product in the field with customers. Agile methodologies are used throughout the life cycle.
We are looking for qualified software engineer candidates to be part of our IBM Z Systems team to help us take z/VM virtualization to the next level on the mainframe.
1. Work on the design and developing the new features and functionalities as part of z/VM product.
2. Analyze the issues defect reports by test team using traces debugging traces and develop fixes or enhancements.
3. Experience dealing with customers problems developing resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
4. Troubleshoot VM management interconnectivity platforms performance and configurations issues in the layers.
5. Participate in continuous and iterative software development cycles with emphasis on code quality supportability scalability and modernization.
7. Document technical issues and solutions
5-10 years of relevant experience in developing SW for Linux/Unix variant products.
Must to have:
a) Minimum 5 yrs experience in software design and development in Systems management.
b) Minimum 2 years in leading the team developing Management console products like (Novalink HMCFoglight VMAN VeenaM ONE...etc).
c) Experience in working with  Virtualization/Virtualization Management SW REST API Network application development.
d) Extremely comfortable with Linux development - commands shell and its usage.
e) Ability to write/modifying Shell Programs - Bash KSH CSH or any scripting language.
f) Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues.          g) Familiarity with hardware & systems architecture.
h) Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages (e.g. REXX PL/X Python Java C C++JavaScript etc)
i)Â Experience troubleshooting and resolving software or system issues including analyzing logs and system behaviors.
j) Strong understanding of Virtualization and/or Virtualization concepts (working experience either with z/VM PowerVM KVM Xen VMware etc.)
k)Â Experience providing remote troubleshooting and support for software usage and configuration inquiries
- Extremely comfortable in Linux/unix development environment - commands/shell Libraries and managing the development environment & Linux Administration.
- Experience working with complex systems and abilities to develop new features and able to fix any existing issues.
- Strong team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to work effectively in a global team environment - Proven command over the English language both written and verbal
