Job Summary:
This System Modeling Engineer, Modeling & Simulation will build system models of electrified transport refrigeration devices to support the development of reliable & efficient market-leading Thermo King products. This role will also support the advancement of Thermo King's system modeling capabilities, working in collaboration with global Engineering teams.
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
- Perform modeling and simulation activities using credible system and component models of appropriate fidelity. Provide model-informed guidance for decision-making.
- Advise and collaborate with product platform, controls, component, test, data science, component vendors and other stakeholders throughout model lifecycle.
- Working with global teams, external partners, and key stakeholders, support initiatives for modeling capability improvement aligned with product roadmap and business needs.
- Be an enthusiastic advocate of model-driven engineering. Stay current with emerging trends and advancements. Develop into a recognized technical contributor and leader.
- Accelerate and mature application and impact of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to product development.
- 10% overnight travel is anticipated.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and at least 2 years of experience with R&D, modeling and/or testing of refrigeration or related physical systems is required.
- Master's Degree is preferred.
Key competencies
- Familiarity and interest in modeling (mathematically describing) and analyzing refrigeration and/or related physical systems, both at the system and component level are required.
- Strong background and fundamentals aligned with transport refrigeration systems are required: thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, mechanical, and electrical.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills are required.
- Experience and comfort with bridging and integrating multiple subsystems, physics domains, tools, and varying model detail/fidelity at the system level is desired.
- Experience with MS Excel, Matlab, and EES is desired.
- Experience and comfort with common scientific computing tools/languages for preprocessing, postprocessing, analysis, and automation activities, such as MATLAB, R, Python, or Julia is desired.
- Interest and understanding of systems engineering and/or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles is a plus.
- Experience with industry standard physics-based system modeling tools such as Dymola (preferred), Simscape, Amesim, or GT Suite is a plus.
- Experience with modern controls principles, controls modeling, and Simulink is a plus.
