About the role

The Artificial Intelligence & Computational Biology (AICB) department at LanzaTech is seeking a technical staff member for the role of Research Associate in Systems Biology. 

The Systems Biology team supports fermentation and synthetic biology work across the organization, with comprehensive and targeted analyses of multiple omics data types, and other approaches for continuous improvement of our biocatalyst and gas fermentation process. 

As Research Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting LanzaTech’s business objectives by analysing genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics datasets. You will participate in active research and commercial projects to deliver computational biology analysis in support of project goals. You will also identify key improvements to process success in collaboration with other departments. 

Key duties 

• Analyse and integrate genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics datasets 
• Deliver computational biology analysis in support of project goals 
• Prepare data and material for presentations, patents, reports, etc 
• Maintain computational tools and data records 
• Contribute to and adhere to all SOPs and safety standards and practice 
• Directly assist supervising (senior) scientist/specialist with their analyses and experiments 
• Present in team meetings 
• Discuss experimental plans and results with supervising senior scientists 
• Develop new skills and methodologies through work with senior scientists and collaborations with other scientists 
• Document results and workflows in a timely and organized manner. 

Required Qualifications

• BS degree in microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related major with strong skillset in using bioinformatic tools 
• Demonstrated understanding/course work of bacterial physiology, metabolism, molecular biology, and genetics
• Proficient in R programming language 

Preferred/Valued 

• Strong understanding of gene regulation such as post-transcriptional or translational modifications, promoters/repressor function, regulatory elements, small RNAs, etc 
• MS or publication record in systems biology or demonstrated record of omics analyses 
• Experience scanning for and understanding homologous genes and functional predictions 
• Additional programming experience in Python or other languages

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
