Your Role and Responsibilities
As an IBM Tax Accountant you will perform a unique and integral role as a ‘trusted business advisor’ by influencing key business decisions supporting internal as well as external client facing operations and contributing to IBM’s business results. As a member of our IBM Tax team you’ll have the opportunity to grow your expertise with a market leader while exploring and connecting with virtually every part of IBM in over 160 countries.
IBM Accounting has the responsibility to accurately record the company’s financial performance using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles IBM Accounting Practices and Local Statutory Principles. Professionals working in this area are involved in some or all of the following activities: accounting for complex business transactions advising the business on technical accounting matters and performing financial performance reporting and analysis. IBM Tax Accounting is responsible for the accurate recording and reporting of tax impacts within the company’s financial statements disclosures as well as other reporting requirements.
• Supports US and foreign tax accounting requirements including specific requirements mandated by tax reforms.
• Assists in managing tax balance sheet and related requirements.
• Supports preparation of various footnotes for external filings.
• Contributes to technology enhancement opportunities in the tax accounting process.
• Assists in tax accounting implications of acquisitions and dispositions.
• Supports tax accounting technical research requirements.
• Maintains a detailed understanding of all new relevant tax accounting related pronouncements.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• 4-5 years of tax accounting experience at a Big 4 accounting firm and/or a multinational corporation.
• Good understanding of US GAAP and ASC740.
• Working knowledge of US and foreign tax accounting requirements.
• Experience with OneSource Tax Provision (OTP).
• Familiarity with U.S. Tax reform legislation (TCJA).
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently on technical tax accounting matters in a timely fashion.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
