Job Description

Thinking through making, it’s what we do.  We’re looking for people who care about the details, understand that design matters and love figuring things out using CAD, shop tools and ingenuity.  The Technical Designer is part of a highly collaborative cross-functional mockup and prototype development team that facilitates the implementation of industrial and mechanical design concepts. The Technical Designer should be familiar with all areas of mockup development from scoping and planning to design and construction.  A primary focus of the role is to develop design for build strategies on projects ranging from design development to engineering validation work.  In this position you’ll work alongside some of the best and brightest talent at Teague, able to execute on any design challenge, from large-scale conceptual environments and brand experiences to the small intricate details of interaction design. You’ll be working on projects defining the human experience for the next generation of products in commercial air and space travel, autonomous vehicles, and all sorts of mobility.

Why We Need This Position

Teague’s approach to design is ‘thinking through making’; Technical designers at Teague are the ones who carry the work from design concept to mockup reality, giving colleagues and clients a chance to observe and test their theoretical ideas in the real world.

Who We’re Looking For

You are creative, technically savvy, highly disciplined and flexible. You also happen to love aircraft. If that’s the case, this might just be your dream job. As the Technical Designer, you get to put your creative talents to work communicating mockup design ideas and concepts through sketches, graphic presentation software and 3D CAD.  You will also generate mockup documentation packages and detailed part and assembly drawings. You work closely with Industrial Design, Mechanical Design and Technical Build staff, you’re happy to coordinate and support the fabrication of mockup components either in house or through vendors. You also know your way around a shop environment and can jump in to help with fabrication, assembly and installation activities.  You have the technical knowledge and discipline to work effectively with Teague’s data management system and adhere to budgetary, timing and scope constraints. In addition, you have a solid grasp of manufacturing processes and are capable of identifying and selecting the best raw materials for a given project. If you like to wear many hats—facilitator, communicator, designer, builder—we want to hear from you.

What We Just Said, Now in 5 Bullet Points (a.k.a. Essential Qualifications):

  • Experience: Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Industrial Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or experience; 4 to 6 years of experience in a design consulting environment; applicable design experience in the aerospace industry is a bonus.
  • Special skills: SolidWorks, data management, comfortable working in a shop, basic understanding of mockup construction techniques, and familiar with aircraft terminology and coordinate systems.
  • Passion: Learning and exploration, technical problem solving, good design, and working in CAD as well as with your hands.
  • Role: Designing how to construct technical and complex design ideas into tangible assets.
  • Personality: Collaborative, creative, detail-oriented, flexible, organized
