Job Description

The Student Retention and Evaluation office seeks applicants for the position ofTemporary Data Analyst/Researcher. This role reports directly to the Associate Provost for Student Retention and Evaluation. Qualified candidates will support the team in adopting appropriate analytical methods and generating meaningful analyses that could best guide The New School data users’ decisions. Additionally this position will assist in data processing and statistical analyses, summarizing findings in written and PowerPoint formats, and co-presenting these findings to internal audiences. This position is available from August 2025 through March 2026 with a max of 35 hours weekly. RESPONSIBILITIES • Contribute to the department’s qualitative research by helping to design, organize, and facilitate focus groups, and by analyzing and summarizing the findings. • Turn analyses into clear, accessible, and actionable written reports. • Co-present findings with Student Success colleagues and campus partners. • Support student persistence and retention initiatives, including the implementation of the university-wide advising awareness campaign, Student Retention Summit, student outreach efforts, and the Mid-Semester Check-in Survey. • Support the Academic Advising team in exploring ways to enhance advising experiences, including of students on Leave of Absence. • Adhere to the Student Data Privacy and Confidentiality Policy. WORKMODE • Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. The New School recognizes and values the benefits of a diverse workforce.Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS • Experience in a position working with data (collection, presentation, and interpretation). • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Canva, and Miro. • Training in information aesthetics to support in interpreting data in informative and visually captivating ways. • Confidence in writing and public presentations. • Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively. • Excellent verbal, written, and data visualization communication skills.Preferred Qualifications: PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS • At least six months experience in a position working with data in higher education; • Demonstrate experience of management of large and complex projects.
