Job Description

Position Summary: The Temporary Welder is responsible for welding and fabricating metal components to meet specifications, ensuring all parts and structures are properly joined and aligned. This role involves performing a range of welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core, to create high-quality, precise welds for production equipment and machinery. Key Responsibilities: Welding & Fabrication: • Perform various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core, to fabricate metal parts and assemblies as per blueprints and technical drawings. • Read and interpret welding blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to determine the welding process, materials, and welding sequence required. • Prepare surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and beveling, ensuring strong welds and proper alignment of metal parts. • Weld a variety of metals, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, to produce high-strength joints in complex configurations. • Maintain high standards of welding quality, ensuring that all welds are free from defects such as cracks, porosity, and undercuts. • Inspect and test welds to verify that they meet specifications and pass non-destructive testing. Maintenance & Repairs: • Support maintenance teams by fabricating custom replacement parts and performing repairs on machinery, structures, and production equipment. • Modify and repair broken or worn-out equipment and machinery parts, including frames, brackets, and components, to restore functionality and ensure continued operations. • Conduct post-welding inspections to ensure structural integrity and conformity to specifications. Quality Control & Documentation: • Document welds, including materials used, work performed, and any non-conformances, to ensure proper tracking and compliance with production standards. • Maintain welding logs and document any issues encountered during the welding process, ensuring accurate records for future reference. • Ensure all welding work aligns with industry codes, standards, and customer requirements. Tool & Equipment Operation: • Operate welding machines, grinders, cutting torches, and other related tools for welding, fitting, and fabrication work. • Ensure all equipment is in safe working condition, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs as needed. • Set up welding machines according to material specifications, selecting appropriate settings for optimal welding performance. • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of welding stations, ensuring that all tools and materials are readily available and properly stored. Safety & Compliance: • Strictly adhere to safety standards by wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, face shields, welding helmets, and flame-resistant clothing. • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure the workspace is clear of any fire hazards. • Participate in safety audits and contribute to the safety culture by identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions when necessary. • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that welding fumes, sparks, and metal debris are properly managed to minimize safety risks. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions: • Heavy industrial environment, with frequent exposure to high temperatures, welding fumes, metal dust, and loud noise levels. • Work is mainly in the fabrication shop and may include exposure to sharp metal edges, hot surfaces, and industrial solvents. • PPE is required, including welding helmets, gloves, and protective clothing. • Shift work, including potential weekends, with the need to adjust for overtime during busy production periods. • Work in both indoor and semi-outdoor areas, depending on production needs. Qualifications: Education/Experience: • High school diploma or GED required. • Certification in welding (e.g., AWS, CWB) or similar industry-recognized certification preferred. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial welding (MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding). • Experience welding a variety of metals, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols. Behavioral Competencies: • Attention to detail, ensuring that all welds meet precise specifications and high-quality standards. • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot welding-related issues, adapt to changing requirements, and find effective solutions. • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Ability to work under pressure, particularly in fast-paced environments or when meeting tight production schedules. Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle heavy welding equipment and materials. • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching during welding tasks and when handling metal parts and equipment. • Ability to work in high-heat environments, particularly when performing welding tasks that generate intense heat and sparks. • Physical stamina to stand or kneel for long periods during welding and fabrication work. • Dexterity and coordination required to handle small tools and operate welding machines. This job description is intended to outline the general nature and level of work being performed by employees in this role. It is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required. Management reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties as necessary.
