TOOLROOM AND PARTS ATTENDANT

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

The incumbent will be working 10 hours a day and 4 days on island 3 days off. Transportation to and from San Clemente Island is by Airplane. Flights arrive and depart from Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado Ca.

This position is entitled to a remote site-offshore allowance up to $10.00 a day and may not to exceed $10.00 a day in addition to pay otherwise due to the employee. (See 5 U.S.C. 5942 and 5 C.F.R. 591 Subpart C)

Applicants should be aware of the limited medical care on the island. There are no physicians. The Navy Hospital Corpsman are assigned to San Clemente Island and are able to treat minor illness and injuries. They are also capable of providing initial stabilization of most medical emergencies. In the event of emergency, individuals will be evacuated by aircraft to the nearest hospital emergency room. Foul weather conditions may delay air evacuation for several hours or even several days. The incumbent should consider this information seriously, especially if you have potentially life threatening medical problems that may require the immediate attention to a physician.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Physical Demands: Work requires considerable walking and some prolonged standing, may be required to bend, stoop, and kneel in performance of duty. Frequently lifts and carries tools that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items that weigh over 40 pounds. Occasionally it will be necessary to perform work in inclement weather and temperature extremes. Incumbent must be able to recognize color identification for electrical wiring, etc.

Work Environment: Most work is performed inside buildings with concrete floors and in moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Occasionally work is performed in other maintenance shops when performing periodic maintenance checks. Incumbent is subject to minor cuts and bruises while operating machinery and is exposed to dirt, oil, grease, and cleaning solvent/fumes. Incumbent is required to wear safety shoes, glasses, and other appropriate equipment in performance of work. Incumbent is exposed to normal hazards associated with construction work and industrial operations and weather conditions.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
