firsthand is changing the way individuals living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) get care – by putting them at the center of everything we do. Our peer led model aims to build trust with these individuals, many of whom have been underserved, stigmatized, deprioritized and have very often lost trust in the systems intended to serve them. Our holistic approach includes partnering with our team of peer recovery specialists, licensed social workers and nurse practitioners, and focuses on meeting them where they are and walking with them side by side, as a trusted guide, partner, and first call, on their journeys’ to wellness.Â
Our aim is to not only improve lives, but also improve the economics for managed care plans and states responsible for providing care to this community. This enables us to build solutions that scale and, as a result, change the way our society supports those most impacted by SMI.

The training specialist is a critical role for firsthand. This role will help support the development of our team members as we rapidly grow and evolve. You will be involved in the administration and implementation of dynamic training programs that support clinical roles at all levels of the organization. Reporting to the Director of Learning & Development, you will work collaboratively to ensure our team members have the support they need to thrive. Through this work, you will be supporting the highly impactful goals of our organization. You will use data to drive decisions, lead engaging training sessions, and support team members as they grow into (and beyond!) their roles.Â
As Training Specialist - Clinical you will:
- Support Learning & Development Initiatives by leading training sessions for our growing team
- Develop and maintain training materials including guides, online learning content, instructional materials, etc.Â
- Serve as administrator to ensure team members are enrolled in appropriate sessions, monitor completion of training plans
- Coordinate with stakeholders across the organization to develop and implement needed training
- Serve as owner of Clinical Onboarding & ongoing training including shadowing, delivering feedback, and coaching on best practices
- Collaborate closely with Clinical Support Team and practicing Clinicians to ensure training aligns with current practices & initiativesÂ
- Measure and monitor training effectiveness, and work collaboratively with the L&D Director to evolve programs
- Support the Central Clinical Care team 10% of your time through direct patient careÂ
- Travel to different communities up to 60% of your time
You will be a good fit if you have:
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and a desire to buildÂ
- Experience with online webinar and course creation tools (Articulate 360 is a plus)
- A passion for leading inclusive and empowering training programsÂ
- A resourceful, action-oriented mindset
- A willingness to travel
The experience you bring to this role includes:
- Experience with change management and launching new teams
- 3-4 years experience as a practicing clinician in an RN, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant Role or other licensed role
- 3-4 years experience as a trainer, facilitator or educatorÂ
- Experience leading both in-person sessions and interactive webinars
- Experience working collaboratively with different levels of staff across Community-based and Support teams
- Strong experience with Appropriate Clinical DocumentationÂ

- Have experience in tools including Slack, Google Suite and other tools that support asynchronous work is not required but is a strong plus
