Job Description

A Triage Specialist is responsible for accurately reviewing data that has been collected from, but not limited to Public Road Evaluation (PRE) testing and performing first-level Root Cause Analysis. They communicate between Triage Engineering and component teams and help to improve Triage outcomes. This role will identify gaps and assist in creating processes that will enhance Triage throughput. Efficiency and quality is critical, but ultimately a Triage Specialist is a key role to maintain the safety standards of how the AV performs on the road.

The Motional global headquarters are located at 100 Northern Avenue in Boston, MA. Nestled in the bustling Seaport district with sweeping views of Boston Harbor and downtown Boston, the offices are located close to major transit lines and a quick walk to various restaurants and popular attractions.

Essential Duties

  • Perform Level 1 Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on several different test modalities including, but not limited to public roads, closed courses, and simulation
  • Closely partner with the triage team to maintain a rapport for a rapid and iterative feedback loop
  • Drive the issue identification, analysis/introspection, mitigation, and reporting lifecycle with the Triage engineers
  • Thoroughly understand the different components of the software stack and maintain knowledge as things change; including expected behaviors and visual representation across various tools
  • Show initiative and be a valued team member in our innovative, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where cooperative teamwork across locations is the norm
  • Accurately categorize disengagements by takeover type
  • Tag logs to reflect search optimization and metrics which are appropriate for each
  • Submit DTB tickets on Jira for takeovers and observations with the respective components for RCA
  • Investigate any logs that have extenuating circumstances that may previously have prevented a reviewer from completing their task ending in a fully reviewed log or removal of the log from mileage accumulation
  • Participate in the daily standup to address new concerns and assignments that may need to be undertaken. This may include new information on which routes need to be prioritized and changes in the log reviewing process that needs to be implemented
  • Oversee training of new reviewers and provide feedback on any misidentified incidents, and coach better practices to improve team efficiency
  • Provide feedback on newly implemented tools and ways that they have impacted the review process in both a critical and positive manner

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for the AV industry as well as safety and mobility
  • Be proficient in working across a suite of proprietary software tools and applications
  • Able to analyze data for long periods of time without sacrificing efficiency and accuracy
  • Experience using issue tracking and configuration management tools (E.g: Atlassian Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, Git.)
  • Ability to understand technical terminology regarding the software stack and each contributing component
  • Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment across multiple time zones with strong communication and collaboration
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to think logically and remove bias from evaluation of problems
  • Posses a detail-oriented mindset focused on safety
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Have strong attention to detail and be able to work independently
  • Effective time management skills

Preferred Qualifications (not required)

  • Experience with software engineering concepts, including requirements analysis, source control, and build processes 
  • Experience with software release management and release testing
  • Entry-level experience with Linux and scripting languages (E.g: Bash/Shell, Python)
  • Data Analysis experience and SQL
  • Experience with testing of autonomous vehicles
  • Thorough understanding of robotics systems including sensors, actuators, mechatronics, and software systems

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and see. The employee is required to use hands to finger and sit for extended periods. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. The estimated compensation range listed in this job posting reflects base salary only. This role may include additional forms of compensation such as a bonus or company equity. Salary Range
$64,200—$81,200 USD
