Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
This position performs routine accounting work in the Finance & Operations Division, Revenue Section. Work involves maintaining, preparing, posting, and balancing financial transactions, documents, or reports. Work includes receiving, coding, and posting a high volume of revenue deposits and transactions within a finite timeframe into agency accounting systems. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
•
Performs data entry, receives cash, prepares deposit slips and maintains cash control records.
•
May prepare general journal entries, cash and refund related vouchers, and revenue allocation documents to include analyzing electronic transactions.
•
Provides effective and efficient customer service in a timely and professional manner to internal and external customers.
•
Assists with an annual inventory of equipment and supplies.
•
Provides forms and general information to the public by mail or phone.
•
Maintains records and filing systems, which include performing records retention work and coordinating with staff on disposal of records according to the agency retention schedule.
•
Compiles and distributes accounting reports and spreadsheets pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, daily mail volume, and refunds of revenue.
•
Maintains, scans, and secures accounting documents. Pulls documents and downloads files.
•
Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and with state and federal statutes.
•
Classifies, codes, posts, and balances a complex volume of revenue documents and records in a revenue log database and/or accounts receivable system.
•
Reconciles revenue batches, logs or schedules, and reports findings.
•
May recommend improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the internal revenue systems and accompanying procedures.
•
May travel up to 5% of the time. May drive and travel to attend and represent the Department at meetings, seminars and conferences.
•
Travel by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel.
•
Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
•
May train others.
•
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the U.S. equivalency thereof in accounting, business administration, management or related field plus one (1) year experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or general office administration. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
