  • Must have the ability to lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Must have ability to stand/stoop/bend/kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring/uncomfortable positions.
  • Must have ability to work inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy and work in areas exposed to high temperature, high noise levels, and possible exposure to lead, chemicals, or carcinogens.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Must possess Respiratory Protection Certification within six months of being placed in this position.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

WG-07:
The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision to include: performing preventative and schedules maintenance on various plant systems and equipment.

WG-08:
The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision to include: operating the boiler/generator heating plants involving start-up and shutdown of equipment, operator maintenance and inspection.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED:

Must possess or be able to maintain a Boiler Certification Operators license or Stationary Engineer license within eighteen (18) months of being placed into the position, or possess military training and experience in a rating or military occupational specialty focusing on operation and/or maintenance of mechanical fluid systems, combustion systems, turbine engines, or power generation (e.g. Navy Machinist Mate or Boiler Technician, Air Force Aerospace Propulsion Mechanic, Army Utilities Equipment Repairer, or other service equivalent).


This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed.

If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
