VFX Plate Supervisor

General Summary 
The VFX Plate Supervisor oversees and supports the capture and specification standards of all stage elements necessary for VFX shot work. This position works in close collaboration with the VFX Supervisor, VFX Production Manager, Lead Lighting Cameraperson (LC), Stage Teams and Production Scheduling to ensure that the stage-to-VFX and VFX-to-stage workflow is fluid, clear and keeps the floor moving on schedule.

Job Functions 

• Regularly review stage schedules and call sheets with VFX Supervisor to align on shot strategy and expectations for stage plates.
• Proactively update all relevant VFX team members, Production Management and Scheduling on delays, complications or changes related to camera capture.
• Serve as VFX’s first point of contact for Stage and Camera teams to troubleshoot any stage-related problems.
• Attend Camera and Crew dailies to approve stage plates and gives notes or calls for additional stage elements.
• Attend big board schedule walkthroughs with Camera team and Production Scheduling to ensure stage plate needs for VFX shot work are clear and achievable.
• Regularly bash comps stage plates to ensure elements are technically sound and to clarify plate usage in final comps.
• Represent VFX at daily big boards meeting to provide status updates and request elements from the stages, as needed.
• Attend bi-weekly Stage Camera Tech meetings and advise on any technical issues related to stage capture for VFX.
• Attend VFX survey callout meetings to clarify CG shot elements and forthcoming department tasks including camera, set, character layout and collision geometry.

Qualifications

• 5+ years digital compositing experience, preferably on feature films.
• Experience in Nuke, Nuke Studio/Hiero and Photoshop, required.
• Experience developing custom Nuke toolsets (including Python3 or Nuke NDK), a plus.
• Experience with Linux (or other Unix) operating system, required.
• Understand VFX pipeline fundamentals, including shooting, editorial turnovers, modeling, texturing, animation, lighting, rendering, compositing, and DI (Virtual Production experience, a plus).
• Ability to work efficiently and independently under tight deadlines in a multi-tasking environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse artistic talents within teams and one-on-one.
• Excellent time management, proactive approach to problem solving, and respect for deadlines.
