General Summary
The VFX Survey/Matchmove Technical Director (TD) is responsible for technically supporting the Survey and Matchmove teams, under the guidance of the CG Supervisor and Department Leads, while working under the supervision of the Digital Pipeline Manager to design and implement tools and workflows that address production needs. This position will triage and fix technical problems as Artists encounter them and support the CG Supervisors and Leads in the implementation of refinements and updates to workflows and toolsets.
Job Functions
- Develop scripts to optimize various tasks for production, diagnose technical issues and debug problematic scenes in 3DEqualizer, Maya, Houdini, and Nuke.
- Assist with the support of existing tools via bug fixes and version updates, and monitor bug reports filed by Artists in the department.
- Develop solutions and techniques that meet art and technical direction.
- Develop tools which help to ensure seamless acquisition of on-set information such as lens data, set scans (lidar and photogrammetry), reference images and motion control data from stage and other physical departments for detailed digital recreation and integration in VFX.
- Work with fellow Pipeline TDs to design, develop and maintain digital pipeline tools that pertain to the Survey team.
- Identify areas of industry innovation and help develop and maintain custom tools, templates, scripts, workflows and documentation for the Survey team; identify productivity improvements in collaboration with Artists across disciplines. 
- Partner with the CG Supervisor and the Survey Lead to establish survey workflows, processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with CG Supervisor and Technical Leadership to design and implement USD based camera pipeline.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of related VFX or Animation industry experience.
- Working knowledge of photography including both physical and idealized camera and lens models.
- Professional experience with industry standard DCCs including Maya, 3d Equalizer, Houdini and Nuke.
- Expertise developing with Python, including familiarity with best practices, the Python core library and industry standard libraries such as PySide.
- Experience with one or more DCC Python APIs including Maya, Houdini, Nuke, and/or 3d Equalizer required.
- Experience with photogrammetry, plate de-warping and stabilization, preferred.
- Experience working with Reality Capture and/or other photogrammetry solutions, preferred.
- Experience using USD and USD APIs in production, preferred.
