Vice President, Software Engineering

Pearl Health is restoring the independence and joy of practicing medicine for doctors in the United States. Our healthcare system has burdened our doctors with too much process, while removing them from what they do best: caring for those we love most. We launched Pearl Health because we believe primary care providers, armed with the proper tools and resources, can have an outsized impact in achieving high-quality, affordable healthcare. We foresee a shift to an increasingly value-based future where physicians and provider groups will participate in the value they create for the healthcare system and will increasingly require proper tooling, information systems, capital support, and technology to succeed in these models.

We are a team of physicians (Groups), practice-enablement experts (VillageMD, Steward, Stellar), technologists (athenahealth, TrialSpark, Flatiron Health) and health plan leaders (Oscar, Clover, Centivo) who believe that primary care providers (PCPs) are the key to America’s future health.  Today, we support over 100 providers in value-based Medicare models and are on track to substantially increase the Medicare population we will be responsible for managing with our physician partners for 2023 (+$300M of Medicare benchmark risk). Our investors include Andreessen Horowitz and AlleyCorp.

We're looking for a VP of Engineering who can take our 16-person engineering team to the next level and beyond. As the VP of Engineering, you’ll have a critical, hands-on role in hiring up the team, shaping technological strategy, cultivating the engineering culture, setting process, as well as building, leading, and guiding our engineering organization. The ideal candidate will have a high level of expertise in product development. This position will be a driving force for the strategy, development, and delivery of our products.

Our technology platform enables primary care physicians, and their staff, to proactively identify opportunities to improve patient health. The code is currently built in Python, TypeScript and React, and the codebase is about 1 year old.

• Lead our Engineering team with authenticity, vision, and determination.
• Grow the team from ~16 engineers to ~50, over a 2-year time horizon.
• Guide the evolution of our team processes and practices.
• Manage our budgets for hiring, tooling and infrastructure.
• Partner closely with the heads of our Product Management, Data Science and Customer Success teams.
• Contribute at the executive level to help craft our strategy.

• 12+ years of Engineering experience, with a substantial amount of experience leading managers as well as individual contributors within R&D organizations.
• Previous experience scaling a team of engineers with diverse skill sets and experience levels from ~15 to over 30 individuals.
• Previous experience with the Agile Scrum model.
• Extensive knowledge of industry trends, emerging tools & solutions, and change management ensuring our engineering team stays ahead of the curve.
• Prior experience with health technology is a plus, but not required. We want people who are excited about our mission, and have what it takes to lead a world-class team. You can learn on the job – but we’ll expect you to learn quickly.

The expected base pay range for this position is between $150,000 and $190,000 per year.
