Vocational Teacher: Jacksonville School for Autism is seeking an experienced Vocational teacher who is skilled in working with students with complex communication and behavioral disorders ages 13+ in the Supportive Transition Enrichment Program- (STEP.) STEP students vary in age from 13-35. Students participate in on-site, community outreach, volunteer and Vocational Rehab (VR). Educational Preferences: • Experience in Special Education Preferred • Experience in Vocational Rehab Preferred • Bachelor's in Special Education Preferred Required Skills & Experience: • Able to pass a Level 2 Background Screening, including arrests and charges. • Experience in working with individuals with disabilities. • Experience with young adults and adults with disabilities. • Ability to interact well with children, parents and other professionals. • Ability to work well independently and collaborate with a team. • Ability to communicate written and verbally with a multidisciplinary team. • Ability to accept feedback and implement recommendations from feedback. Other Job requirements: • No prior criminal history and have a valid license to drive and proof of valid insurance. • Proficient in using Google Suite • Physical ability to run, jump, get on/off the floor, bend and push/pull 75 pounds (e.g., move school tables/training materials) and lift/support 25 pounds of weight (e.g., client). Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher preferred • At least 3 years experience working in special education or related field • Ability to interact well with children, parents and other professionals • Acceptance of philosophy and goals of JSA • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Team oriented with an ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams. • (ABA Therapists/Speech/OT/Administration/Families). • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. • Must have current and valid automobile insurance if transporting students. • Pass a level 2 criminal background check. • Physical ability to run, jump, get on/off the floor, bend and help carry and transport students in times of Aggression/SIB Behavior. Push/pull 75 pounds (e.g., move school tables/training materials) and lift/support 25 pounds of weight (e.g., client). • All employees and agents have an affirmative duty to report all actual or suspected cases of child abuse, abandonment, or neglect in accordance with the Mandated Reporting policy. • Acquire CPR/BLS Certification and NPI number prior to employment at JSA. Teacher Job Description: • Maintains professionalism within the school and community settings. • Observes and records a child's progress towards Individualized Education Plan. • Maintains documentation of student progress and communicates needs. • Communicates with the family and other agency personnel using a one voice policy. • Communicates and coordinates with other therapist(s) and supervisory staff as appropriate. • Participates in in-service training programs to enhance skills in academic, behavioral and child development applicable to the JSA client population. • Understands and adheres to established JSA policies and procedures. • With direction from the Education Director instructs family/significant others in understanding student progress • With direction from the Education Director, updates students' Individualized Education Plan to reflect current data and attainable goals. • Participates in current student’s team meetings. • Follows recommendations outlined by the Education Director • Attends required staff meetings. • Completes home notes via e-mail daily to caregivers and JSA team by 4:00 pm. • Checks email at least two times a day (before 9:00 a.m. and after 3:00 p.m.) • Observes confidentiality and safeguards all student related information per JSA HIPAA training. • Immediately reports any patient incidents/variances or complaints to supervisory staff. • Maintains current CPR and BLS certification. • Maintains current PCM certification (if applicable). Performs other duties as assigned by Leadership and/or supervisory staff. • Create and deliver lesson plans that teach functional academics, daily living skills, and job readiness through hands-on, real-world experiences. • Adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs and support successful transition to adult life.
