Job Description

About The Job

Testlio is a technology-enabled services business. We are the originator of fused software testing, a unique approach to testing that combines humans and machines to help digital innovators deliver quality products at scale. In any location. On any device. In any language. Via any payment method. The company is 100% remote and distributed, with full-time people in 40+ countries and part-time freelancers in 150+ countries. Clients include Amazon, Microsoft, the NBA, Netflix, PayPal, Uber, Wayfair, and many more. Collectively, they have awarded us an industry-leading 4.7 G2 rating. To learn more, visit www.testlio.com.

The VP Engineering position is responsible for all aspects of software development at Testlio, partnering closely with product, design, services, and operations leaders. The role reports directly to the CEO of Testlio and is part of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). This is a newly created role as our former CTO has now stepped into a CPO position.

Please note: based on our remote work approach and compensation strategy, we are not considering candidates from expensive areas (like London, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Oslo, Zurich, etc.). We are also not considering candidates from the AMER nor APAC regions.

What You’ll Do

As VP, Engineering, you will be focusing on holistically advancing our testing management and workforce optimization software platform while leading a team of ~25 (engineering managers, software developers, DevOps personnel, quality engineers, etc.) in an EMEA focused remote setup (4 time zones across 13 countries). The Testlio platform is not directly monetized; Testlio personnel use the Platform to provide a managed app testing service to enterprise-class clients.

At Testlio, we strive to be great at our software development craft, leverage technological advancements, and deliver tangible business impact. We believe in data-driven engineering, integrated software ecosystems (Testlio integrates with seven categories of DevOps tools with two more to come), and modern hybrid agile methodologies. This role will define, implement and lead our technical programs, leveraging engineering productivity and performance metrics to advance our software delivery processes.

What would your day look like?
  • Directly lead and manage an anticipated group of 5 managers (who oversee ~25 people across Engineering, DevSecOps, and Quality Engineering).
  • Participate in ELT (Executive Leadership Team) activities, helping guide and navigate the company (corporate strategy, budgeting, financing, etc.).
  • Deliver on technical roadmaps by driving engineering investments aligned to business goals.
  • Help teams tackle quality, scalability, performance, cybersecurity, data protection, technical debt, AI/ML, data science, and more (across AWS, Microsoft Azure GenAI, GraphQL, REST APIs, TypeScript, React UI, Node.js, PHP, Kafka, MySQL, MariaDB, and Redshift).
  • Ensure alignment, communication, and productivity across multiple EMEA time zones and cultures via our 100% remote work approach.
  • Roll up your sleeves to architect, problem solve, and occasionally even code—helping to advance key initiatives in a hands-on way when warranted
  • Foster data-driven engineering: create, monitor and improve engineering metrics to drive objective decisions
  • Provide platform and technology vision to clients, prospects, partners, and the industry broadly.
What you need to succeed?
  • 10+ years of experience in building and managing engineering teams of 10-100
  • A keen desire to build a world-class, technology-powered services business.
  • A profound passion for logistical excellence, process automation, and quality assurance.
  • A strategic mind to navigate build/buy/integrate technology decisions.
  • An approach that matches our human values (e.g. Be Kind and Foster Inclusion) along with our aspirational values (e.g. Give a Damn and Challenge Things).
  • The wisdom to lead multiple architectures, integrations, and technologies.
  • A commitment to a 100% remote approach to work.
  • Technical education and training (e.g. BS in IEOR, CS, or EE).
Why you will love being a part of Testlio?
  • Winning business: Testlio is growing, profitable, and cash-strong. We are leading our industry with exceptional clients who provide us a high NPS score and 4.7 rating on G2. Our business model is global, enterprise, and subscription-based, with 85%+ of our revenue recurring. Several of our largest clients have been with us for 7+ years and many spend $500K+/year with Testlio.
  • Proven client results: Testlio’s people + software solutions expand testing coverage, improve release velocity, and contain quality assurance costs. Our unique approach (“fused software testing”) merges automated + manual testing, on-demand + dedicated resources, and quality + operations systems to unlock new levels of quality engineering value.
  • Great culture: Testlio’s is female-founded and is 46% women. Our purpose, vision and values help drive positive mindsets and behaviors. People like working with each other and love the global scale of the company. We move fast and empower people on the frontlines to make decisions and own initiatives.

What is the Candidate Consideration Process?

We do our best to bring on individuals who will be excited about their role and who have the potential for a great future with Testlio. Since we are 100% distributed we give you the chance to meet with multiple people throughout the organization to give you an idea of who you would be working with, and what the role expectations will be. Our interview process can take about 4 to 6 weeks to complete.

  • Application review
  • Hiring manager interview
  • Multi-part assessment
  • ~5 team and stakeholder interviews
  • Hiring manager additional conversations
