VP of Global Flights Engineering

This role is eligible for our hybrid work model: Two days in-office.

Reporting into the CTO, this role will be charged with driving the engineering strategy for the global flights platform across the company. They will lead all the API and backend development for Priceline. This role will sit on the CTO engineering leadership team.

The VP of Global Flights Engineering is responsible for mentoring and managing directors of engineering, engineering managers as well as software and testing engineers. As a VP you are expected to lead the engineering teams in designing and implementing our global platform across all our products. The VP also works closely with the product organization to set the architectural direction for their products. In addition, the VP is responsible for adopting, maintaining and implementing best practices with the directors, managers, scrum masters, software engineers, test engineers and QA through example, guidance and training. This leadership should be a beacon reflecting our cultural values of Priceline

In this role you will get to:

• Lead and manage the flight platform and operations
• Lead, mentor and support a highly effective team of passionate engineers fostering a high-performance culture.
• Responsible for ensuring that the product vision is realized through excellence in execution
• Serves as part of the senior staff, working in an interdisciplinary manner with their peers in other departments
• Enable a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation and excellence while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our engineering organization
• Recruit world-class engineering talent and participate in the process including attracting, screening, and closing high caliber candidates.
• Participate in strategic planning meetings with product management, architecture and design
• Contribute to technical engineering designs, resource management and implementations
• Manage the delivery of software using Agile best practices
• Build cross-department relationships centered on executing company strategy
• Exemplify Priceline cultural values
• Solve complex software engineering tasks, while maintaining coding standards and practices
• Communicate effectively with team members, internal and external customers
• Measure KPI's such as velocity, estimation accuracy and defect percentages
• Assure that department achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame
• Assist in training new engineers by leading technical courses
• Manage budgets including Training, Travel, Morale, Contractor and Compensation while working to reconcile with actuals from Finance
• Work with Finance and Recruiting to track headcount and job openings
• Work closely with the CTO on department wide initiatives

Who you are:

• BS, MS, or Ph.D in Computer Science or related technical discipline
• 10+ Years Software Engineering
• Experience with architectural design recommendation and guidance
• Experience building off-shore or near-shore teams from scratch
• Proven experience leading engineering teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Software development experience building enterprise SaaS cloud-based solutions
• Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, delivery and maintenance of large-scale and high-performance platforms
• Knowledge of release management and deployment workflow processes, from development release through production deployment
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build productive cross-departmental relationships and motivate team members. Positive, can-do attitude and value collaboration a must
• Experience with object-oriented code, Elixir, Java, NodeJS, SQL Server, Front-End/ UI, Web Services
• Technical expertise that enables meaningful conversations with product architects & engineers
• Manage a budget of over $15 million and a P&L
• Demonstrated history of living the values important to Priceline: Customer, Innovation, Team, Accountability and Trust. Unquestionable integrity and ethics

There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. In addition to a competitive base salary, certain roles may be eligible for an annual bonus and/or equity grant.

The salary range for this position is $240-300k.

Flexible work at Priceline

Priceline is following a hybrid working model, which includes two days onsite as determined by you and your manager (ideally selecting among Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday). On the remaining days, you can choose to be remote or in the office.
