Elgin Separation Solutions, an Astec Industries company, is an innovative company dedicated to providing unique solids separation solutions to customers' industrial needs. We are looking for a detail-oriented Welder to support our production team. Summary: Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques and operating various welding devices. He or she shall interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision. Key Skills and Competencies: 1) Minimum 5 years of experience in the welding industry with skills in both welding and fabrication. 2) Must be skilled in various welding processes including MIG and TIG and FluxCore. 3) Strong understanding in blueprint reading/ weld symbols to accurately build products to specified tolerances. 4) Must be able to work within a team-based environment to accomplish all aspects of welding and fabrication. 5) Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales. 6) Must be proficient in Layout, Tacking, Welding, Grinding and finishing. 7) Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events. 8) Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, conversions of fractions and decimals Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Principle job functions are outlined below: 1) Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. 2) Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits. 3) Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisors. 4) Clamps, holds, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. 5) Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding. 6) Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts of warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials. 7) Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. 8) Recognizes, set up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. 9) Will lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers. 10) operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits while performing his job function. 11) Communicates with management, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues. 12) Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment. 13) May perform other duties as assigned by management.
